Hm, not too big for any of the openers.

Estimates for next week:

1 - Eagle Eye Paramount (DreamWorks) 3,300
2 - Nights in Rodanthe Warner Bros. 2,500+
3 - Miracle at St. Anna Buena Vista 1,100
4 - Choke Fox Searchlight 400
5 - The Lucky Ones Lionsgate 400
6 - Forever Strong Crane Movie Company 300

I expect Eagle Eye to be over 3,500 in the final numbers. And what's with three small-ish semi-wide releases?

Hmm, I didn't expect Choke go to semi-wide right away. I thought it'd be a slow roll-out. I can't really see it performing well in wide-ish release anyway.

Eagle Eye will get 3,500, yes. I'd have said over 3,600 theatres, but the marketplace is actually getting pretty crowded right now.

Good for Nights in Rodanthe too. I mean seeing that even The Women with its ghastly reviews and many delays performed pretty well, Rodanthe should open to $15+ million with this theatre count and have strong legs.

What the hell is Forever Strong? Haven't even heard of it before.

Journey to the Center of the Earth and Vicky Christina Barcelona are at least losing their theatres slowly, so the former will have no problems passing $102 million and the latter passing $21 million and getting pretty close to Match Point.

Quite amazing that The Women is playing at almost 3,00 theatres, whereas none of the new openers got even 2,700...

Interesting that Choke and The Lucky Ones are being given 400 theaters apiece. Neither would do well in wide release, but I think a limited rollout and then expanding would've been better.

I agree. I think The Lucky Ones will do especially poor, even if it's the more mainstream. Has there been advertising on TV for either of them?

The Lucky Ones could easily bomb worse than Choke because at least that film has the cult audience from the Chuck Palahniuk novel. He's best known as the writer of Fight Club.

I know. That's why I think CHOKE will perform better. Currently I'm predicting 1.1 Million for CHOKE and $600,000 for THE LUCKY ONES.
