You guys bring out a brilliant point.

This film is soo deep that you really need a 2nd viewing to truly respect it and understand it.

I have learned a lot of things I did not notice the first time I Watched it.

Harvey's tragedy really made the film different from your typical Villan VS Hero and girl in between.

In TDK you have the typical story and then a 4th dimension and that is the Tragedy of Harvey Dent.

considering the great reviews written here and the discussion it spawned, i think this thread should be merged with the TDK thread in Everybody's a Critic Forum

Imo the tragedy of Harvey Dent was the film's weak point.

The transformation from normal Harvey to Two-Face was way to sudden...

Like I understand Harvey was a good guy and was forced to turn evil, but they could have made a bit more gradual.

Like he could have been somewhat bad and turned more and more evil.

He is locking up mobsters and being selfless and a white Knight and all and then 5 mins latter he becomes the Next Hamlet.

HOWEVER, I may change my mind with a 2nd viewing next week.

Umm

Harvey never turned evil in the film at all. You'll notice that everyone he targeted was someone he felt had a hand in the death of Rachel. The only thing he did was introduce a coin toss to decide between what he felt was right and what he felt he wanted to do, which is something he was struggling with beforehand. Now, he left the decision making up to chance. But not once did Harvey actually randomly decide to hurt someone. He just chose those he felt were responsible or found a way to hurt those that were responsible.

The important thing here is if you bashed that boy's head into a steel railing. Because clearly, thats all he deserved.

IMO the ending had a very powerful message but I missed out on a lot and really I watched BB 4 times and learned something new, so I think TDK easily warrants a few more views.

I liked how they explored the differences between a Hero and a Guardian.

Also some people find it boring because in their world, a comic book film should be fun and lighthearted and have a melodramatic ending.

Technically the Dark Knight did have a slightly melodramatic climax, but only in terms of definations, as it is far better than a typical melodramatic ending.

The Dark Knights ending is perhaps the best I have ever viewed.

It really makes the film for me go from "A" material to "A+" material.

I seriously have to question the sanity of any person that sing Zimmer and Newton Howard rehashed there BB score because TDKs was in every imaginable better and far more powerful.

The Score made the ending so much more powerful, the monologue and the perfect score together make the best ending of all time.

After even more analysis TDK creeps up top 100 films more and more, the more I think about it.

It went from 76, to 44 to 34 and now it is number 29.

I doubt it, unless I see it again and like it more that it will get below number 20.

Its between The Bridge On The River Kwai and Rear Window. :noway:

You guys know how I think about newly released films being called all time great films. Usually I am driven to hate the film and call such suggestions to be silly, however TDK deserves it this time.

Forget Children of Men and Brave New world.

I grew up with Bruce Timm's Batman, so to me, that WAS Batman, and I am so happy The Dark Knight captures the feeling of the show.
