Quote:
Mamma Mia!, promoted as Mamma Mia! The Movie, is a 2008 musical/romantic comedy film adapted from the 1999 West End musical of the same name, based on the songs of successful pop group ABBA, with additional music composed by ABBA member Benny Andersson. Distributed by Universal Pictures in partnership with Tom Hanks' and Rita Wilson's Playtone and Littlestar, The title originates from ABBA's 1975 chart-topper "Mamma Mia". Meryl Streep heads the cast, playing the role of single mother Donna Sheridan. Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård play the three possible fathers to Donna's daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).

It eventually became the highest grossing musical of all-time in terms of worldwide gross (Grease still holds the record for highest US domestic gross).

For the love of all that's holy this movie scared the crap out of me, in fact im pretty sure at one point it caused me to see the cinema seats stand up and look at me smiling manically with daggers at the ready. Yup this film goes on my do not watch while on shrooms list.

Thats not to say it wasn't enjoyable, I mean I like Abba so i was bound to enjoy this, but some of the music numbers are so nutso in parts what with all the middle aged flesh bouncing around and naked guys waddling around with sea shoes.

Meryl Streep is pretty awesome, and I really liked Brosnan's singing due to its cracked imperfect nature, I feckin hate american idol style "perfect" voices give me real humans like Brosnan anyday. The actress that plays the young getting married girl is horrendously perky thou to the point of me feeling ill, althou her boyfriend was amusing in an English stereotype way.

So yea overall it was fun with splashes of bizarre insanity and cinema seat murder.

Do you think all this Oscar-talk about Meryll Streep is valid?

Nah I don't think so. She's very entertaining but nothing that screams give that woman a gold statue.

it is so much better than Hairspray i believe. This is laugh-out-loud hilarious stuff. the music blends excellently with the story. Seriously Libs, this is the best film of the year so far for me.

The only weak link is Pierce Brosnan. Awful, even though he is trying really hard to do something else with the role.

I don't think Meryl Streep will score any nominations for this performance, but to be honest who cares. She is honestly having the time of the life with this role.

Glad to hear it :) I'm totally looking forward to this one. How is Amanda Seyfried in it?

Really annoying, at least for me.

Oddly the fiance didn't bother me, but Seyfried or maybe the character was just way to perky for my taste.

Seyfried's becoming one of my favorite young actresses after Mean Girls and "Big Love," so I hope this is a breakout role for her.

the fiance was an emotion-less thing with a near 6-pack. i didn't mind Seyfried being too perky. she was excited to meet her father(s).

He was British, genetically designed to suppress emotion.

I have to wait until next Tuesday afternoon to see this because I'm seeing it with my friend and we can't hang out until then. It's kind of sad.

Hopefully I'll just build up the anticipation even more, though.

The Dark Knight is Sunday.

Loyal you should change your rank to an ABBA song in celebration of Mamma Mia.

It's what the cool kids are doing.

This way, you can fanboy Batman and Mamma Mia at the same time :)
