This movie is so amazing. It really creeped me out, and got to me. Some of the scenes were so horrifying, and the way the film is done is very effective. I've seen this movie a few times, but not in its entirety. I've only seen bits and parts of it. It's definitely in my top 10 favorite horror movies list. One of the most creepiest scenes for me was when JoBeth Williams is being dragged on the walls, and the ceiling, that was just so creepy, and really got under my skin. I'm lucky I watched it in the daytime, because if I would've watched it in the night time I probably would've had a heart attack. Anyway, I thought this movie was amazing, and I wanted to make a thread for it because I think people that haven't seen it should rent it. It's really a great film, and if you love horror movies like me, you are going to love it!

Yes, its much better than some recent ghost movies like Gothika, and The Haunting remake, that movie was dreadful.

Its one of the best horror films ever.Steven Spielberg directed 70% of the film according to the actors and crew who worked on the film.

Yes, I was looking at the trivia at Internet Movie Database, and it did say that Spielberg had a lot of input on this film, and he make a lot of the decisions for some of the key scenes.

When they were celebrating the 20th anniversery JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson were talking about how Spielberg should have gotten the credit as the director of the film,Toby hooper was so fucked up with drugs that he couldnt even show up on the set,hooper later admited that he dosent remember working on the film much since his drug days at that time was pretty fucked up.Steven didnt take credit because he didnt want that kind of publicity,he was having his own problems with the twilight zone movie tragedy because of the recklessness of john landis.

Vic Marrow was killed with 2 children in one of the segment of thefilm,the one directed by John Landis,It was the one about the Bigot guy,The scene where he is in vietnam,in the scene a helicopter was supposed to come and attack him,The helicopter crashed and landed on the actors tearring them to pieces,you can see the video and see that landis was shouting at the pilot to bring the helicopter more down and closer to the actors and the pilot said it wasent a good idea but landis demanded it and the rest is history.

Anyway, i liked Poltergeist (the story of which is from Spielberg btw) very much, the sequel is great too (anyone remembering that reverent? spooky fellow), the 3rd one though is shit.

The Sequel is so cheesy,its horrible,especially the end with the ghost grandmother and the cheesy music.The third is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I remember seeing footage where you can actually spot the heads popping off the bodies.

Landis, BTW, is set to direct the musical Batboy.

I dunno, if i remember correctly, i enjoyed it much like the first. It was gorier, had cool monster stuff (that beast which the father womits out for instance), the part in the cave with all the corpses, and of course i loved that reverent fellow. :razz:

released, 22 year-old actress
Dominique Dunne (who played the
teenage daughter, Dana) died
after she was strangled to death
by her boyfriend. During production
of the sequel, Poltergeist II: The
Other Side, actor Julian Beck (who
plays the downright creepy Rev. Kane)
died of stomach cancer in 1985.
Most notably would be the untimely
death of the blond 12 year-old actress
Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne
in all three Poltergeist films. Sadly,
an intestinal blockage took her life in
early 1988, before filming for Poltergeist III
was completed. Many will claim that these deaths
are a supposed curse, it may be true. I don't know,
but if it's not, it is at the very least
eerie and coincidental. Notice they haven't made
a Poltergeist movie in over 16 years. Perhaps they
should revive the franchise and see what happens.
All of them (in their own way) were incredibly
effective supernatural thrillers.

it is odd how some horror films seem to have these tragic deaths involving cast and crew..

One of my all-time favorite movies from the 80s. It was scary as hell despite the PG rating. If considered a Spielberg film, then it is my favorite Spielberg film of all time. He should direct some more audience-friendly horror films.

A remake, while it won't be as good, will definitely be super successful and get new people to see the original.

I'm pretty positive a remake will be made in the five years. If they're remaking The Amityville Horror, which I think will be a success, I'm sure a Poltergeist remake will be around before long.
