lol. Sorry about POTC Matatonio, but you're the one who suggested it, so I guess you're seconding youself. I do that alot too, hence all the threads in the forum with zero replies where I support my own love of a movie.

For Docs I'd also like to throw out:

The Story of Sound - which is a doc about the history of the rise of "girl groups" in motown music. Its really good, anyone seen it? Ronnie talks a bit about Phil...Yikes!

By the way, is SAW an independent movie?

Just looked it up on IMDB. Hehe, sounds kinda good, Cary Elwes is in it. :D No way I'm seeing it though.

You guess is as good as mine. We're not toooooo strict here, so if you want me to include, hell Pulp Fiction and 21 grams are up there, etc.

Speaking of which..... I'm suggesting Jackie Brown. :x

Well, I did a research and many sites listed it under independent and the budget is around $1 million, so I guess it is.

Therefore, I suggest SAW.

Jackie Brown is not really independent, is it? hehe

But if you suggest it, I second it right away. :)

28/35/42 Up
Brain Dead
Bubble Boy
Dazed and Confused
Detour
Dogville
Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill
Fubar
Hands on a Hard Body
Koyaanisqatsi
The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg
My Life As A Dog
Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
Nashville
The Passion of the Christ
Saw
Sex, Lie, and Videotapes
Smoke Signals
Story of Sound
This is Spinal Tap
Times of Harvey Milk
Trainspotting
The Usual Suspects

Lets toss in a few more shall we? I haven't seen this year's biggest indie, but if anyone has seen Napoleon Dynamite they should suggest it. Also, I will throw in The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra more so not because you must watch it, but because you shouldn't miss it. Oh yes, its that good/bad.

Another interesting movie I saw awhile back with Ryan Gosling was The Believer. Did anyone else see this movie? What did you think?

Is it the one about a Jew joining a Nazi group? Because I remember a movie with that content being titled The Believer. I might be wrong of course...

Yeah, that's the one. When I first heard about the premesis I though it was going to be so cliche. Like this kid gets beat up in Hebrew School, grows up to loath them, and tries to kill them or something. But it actually was far more ambiguous. I don't know how I feel about it. I think it was good, but probably needs a rewatch with some supplemental discussion and/or reading. It avoided all the cliches which helps, but I only saw it once, and tougher movies usually require revisiting. What did you think?

(BTW, sammy has The Downfall on the other list waiting for a second...I didn't want to jump in for you. )

Thanks for telling me, I confirmed ;) You should definitely check it out too when it comes out in the States in February...

I haven't seen The Believer because I couldn't find it in any video stores around here. I just saw the preview and that looked intriguing. Besides that I think that Ryan Gosling is a pretty good actor...

What about Dazed and Confused, Life and Times, Spinal Tap, and Trainspotting?

Just cuz a film's overrated doesn't mean it's bad and deserves to be ignored ;). Most Tarantino movies are overrated but I still love them.

New addition: Garden State ... C'mon. You ALL love it.

Yup. Anything from Linklater besides maybe School of Rock is. I'll match you on Waking Life ;)

Honestly, he's the most underrated director.

Passion isn't really an indie.

Mel Gibson's huge in Hollywood. It'd be like calling something directed by Robert Zemeckis an independent film. Sure, it wasn't financed by a big company, but the budget AND the home video distributor suggest that it doesn't REALLY fit into the guidelines...

I don't want it on the list anyways. ;)

It is an indie. I am not a big fan of the movie either, but there is no denying the fact that it is an indie. Either that or foreign, you pick :D
