sicksicksicksick. I'm not squeamish at all but I saw another video where they were describing the girl's injuries right now, a week after this happened, and it made me sick.

I watched the video of her getting beat down, the parts I saw didn't look to bad (I've been in worse fights), but still nothing to sneeze at.

The foolish part is how they start screaming to be careful of the furniture! Man, if I had been that girl, I would have immediately pushed over the giant wooden antique case she was standing next to. Bitch what!

How sad that the girls were able to recognize they would get in trouble for ruining furniture, but felt it was perfectly OK to gang beat down on a girl, video tape it, and then post it online ... I mean ... really?

From reports, she lost sight in one eye and had 7 concussions.

yeah and even though its been a week or so i believe since this happened, her face is still extremely swollen and shes supposed bruised "from head to toe". also, at one point she had 2 black eyes and her eyes were so swollen she could barely open them. oh and along with her sight, she lost a bit of hearing too in one ear though i dont quite see how that happened.

i love how both sides have blamed myspace/youtube for this.

Getting hit in the head cab cause permanent hearing lost. My friend's dad has been deaf in one hear since being hit in the head with a baseball bat at 14.

The kids were definitely wrong but I just saw a report how these idiot adults are charging these kids, as young as 14, as adults and facing life in prison. Get a grip...

so you can kill someone and be charged as a child, you can't drink till 21, you can't sign a contract to what, 18 or 21, etc. but here a 14 year old is charged to possibly go to jail for life. Do gang members who get in fights even face this.

Just seems like some of these adults should be thrown in jail for stupidity.

or why don't we just charge everyone as adults and let the charge fit the crime.

I'm with you there. It's parenting and freaking stupid children is that it is. Youtube and Myspace have nothing to do with this other than giving people a venue to post their own video and in most cases regardless of content but that in no way affected whether these dumb people would have beat each other up to begin with.

I heard about this, although I refuse to watch any video clips of it.

I'm pretty sure they won't. What grounds would they have? I'm pretty sure the video was removed very quickly after it was posted by the websites.

there's an interview with the victim's parents, and all they said basically was it's MySpace's fault.

I dont see whats wrong with that.Not so much the life in prison but the part about being tried as an adult. I certainly know whats wrong and right by age 9. This was done in the act of arrogance as opposed to being done in fear or obliviousness. Charge them harshly now or they will never learn the harsh lesson in life. They certaintly dont have their lives ruined as the poor girl

Well on the bolded above, they are facing life in jail so they won't have anymore chances till parole I guess.

My main problem with this is just that people, maybe the DA, is jumping on this to promote themselves and not the case.

Also I don't have a problem with jail, maybe 3 - 10 years but life is just stupid.

Well I dont mean the part about life in prison but assult like that lands you around 10 years in prison or more. The girl didnt just receive simple bruising but lost sight in her eye. I consider that as causing someone to be paraplegic. I really hate juvy charges because they are way too light. All they really require them to do is be on probation and finish school in juvy hall. 3 years to me is too light

My question is: why is this national news?

This kind of thing happens every day. Trust me, I have had cases like this. And more serious cases involving kids that deserve the news attention don't get it. (I represent one of a group of 6 kids who have never been in trouble in their lives, who are good students, who been accused of raping two girls. They're now scared to death sitting in jail waiting for their trial.)

I guess the answer is simple:

If you're good looking -- especially if you're young, female, and blonde -- you make the headlines. Because good looking blonde women are more valuable, you know.

Think about that girl who disappeared in Aruba, the kid who was murdered in Colorado a few years ago, the women whose husband killed her in California, the woman who was killed recently by her cop husband...

(Sorry I can't remember their names; I try to avoid reading these stories)

These kinds of things happen all the time, but of course, to poor people, old people, and ugly people. It is apparently only news when it happens to good looking folks.

I think they may have meant more in the lines of "it's the fault of our Myspace/Youtube culture" rather than Myspace the company etc. It's more the fault of our society where we do crazy things and put them online for attention etc. such as in this case beating someone.

Does that make sense?

Simply put: sensationalism sells. Let's face it: more people are going to watch a news show that proclaims "Secrets of the VA Tech Gunman Exposed" than are going to watch a news show that proclaims "Today's News". "33 Brutally Murdered in VA Tech Rampage" makes a title that will attract people to watch. And when people watch, guess what happens? Advertisers spend more money to place ads so their products will sell.
