Which of today's big names do you see lasting it out?
Out of all the many actors and actresses famous in their twenties and thirties and forties in Hollywood, only an elite few manage to stay alive in the industry to reach an age like that of Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, or Clint Eastwood.
Which of today's hot names do you think could last it out until old age? This would likely require someone with not only acting talent, but a very recognizable personality and/or voice, as the three above actors have (Nicholson - the jackass, Eastwood - the bad-ass, Freeman - God).
I could see someone like George Clooney having a chance, not only because he's the sexy charismatic guy in the industry, but because he's a director, too, and that's kept Eastwood alive past his acting days.
I also think that someone as talented as Ryan Gosling could stay in the industry as long as he maintains an interest in acting, but I suppose we'll have to wait some time to see how he develops over the years.
Who do you see being a Hollywood player for the rest of his - or her - life?

With Leo as the new Marlan Brando, you can bet he'll stay around.
Honestly it is more of a test for young actors for many actors in their middle-ages that have achieved high fame for acting will last until their death bed.

Re: Which of today's big names do you see lasting it out?
I think this is a hard question. Unlike the past, today's actors make so much money that they are set for life so they don't have to grind out a lifetime of movies. Plus there are so many more complex world issues.
For example on some of the above choices,
Leonardo DiCaprio, Maybe, Maybe Not as he had so much early success and made so much money. Acting already doesn't seem to be the same priority as in the past. Johnny Depp, Maybe, Maybe Not as I know he doesn't like the spotlight and loves Europe so one day he might just not return to Hollywood George Clooney, Maybe, Maybe Not as I could see him pulling an Arnold and going into politics.
and the women, with all of the money they have made and then today's, family and privacy issues, I could see them not going as long either.

Leonardo DiCaprio is pretty much a given. He'll end up with probably 10 Oscar noms or even more for his career. He's just taking on good roles..

Maybe as I see Leo has alot of movies coming out in the next 2 years. I just thought he was sitting on the $ he has made. Making 20 Million on his movies since the Beach in 2001. But who knows what he will feel like doing in 10 years with all of that money.

Shia is Spielberg's new bitch...that kid's gonna get the best roles around for the next five-to-ten years because of Spielberg alone, and if he develops into a mature actor (which Disturbia showed traces of), he'll be all set to go from there. Transformers is gonna be the biggest franchise around pretty soon, and that'll do wonders for his career. Then he gets parts like Indiana Jones to boost his celebrity and lead roles like Eagle Eye to show his potential...if he plays his cards well, who knows. but it's too early to predict him. he's just getting going.

Leo DiCaprio...only person whose gone from name/face to real huge star in the past 10 years. Carrell also has, but he's not what Leo is.

What's holding him back is the kinds of films he makes now...but it's the only way he could enter the industry.

Not quite an A-list name yet, but my pick is Amy Adams. (The other thread reminded me)

Re: Which of today's big names do you see lasting it out?
I'll second Edward Norton and Christian Bale aswell as alot of the others mentioned.
What about Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Reeces Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaul, Vigo Mortensen and Emile Hirsch (I know some of these arent A List - but they should have staying power).
Though some that we laugh at now - may turn out to be good actors when they get old. I mean Morgan Freeman's career really took off when he was in his 50s right?

Re: Which of today's big names do you see lasting it out?
Brad Pitt and Reese Witherspoon will probably fade away as soon as they stop looking pretty. They're both good actors, but not good enough or recognizable enough (personality-wise) to stick around forever.
The others you mentioned all could do it, but we have no idea what Hirsch'll be like in even five years, so it's hard to tell.

Bradd Pitt is a much more talented actor than many give him credit for. Just watch The Assassination of Jesse James for probably the best performance of his career.

Re: Which of today's big names do you see lasting it out?
The more challenging game is to predict which of today's new actors, actresses, and directors will last it out...
(eg: Who among us would have predicted Julia Roberts career after seeing her in Mystic Pizza or George Clooney's after seeing him in Facts of Life...)
