Re: Peter Jackson Confirms His Next Film After King Kong
loyalfromlondon wrote: I heard a while back that this would be his Kong follow up http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=7978Peter Jackson and partner Fran Walsh have put up their own money to option film rights to the Alice Sebold novel The Lovely Bones in an unusual development plan that will exclude studio financing until the script is finished, says Variety. Rights were acquired from FilmFour, the movie arm of British broadcaster Channel 4, which will still serve as Jackson and Walsh's partner in developing the project. The project will be next for Jackson after he completes Universal's King Kong. Jackson, Walsh and Philippa Boyens will begin next January adapting the book as a spec script for a movie that likely won't be ready for release until fall 2007. The trade adds that Jackson's manager Ken Kamins and FilmFour won't entertain distribution or financing possibilities until the script is done and the movie is budgeted, a process that should be complete around May 2006. Here's how the book's publisher describes the story: When we first meet 14-year-old Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. This was before milk carton photos and public service announcements, she tells us; back in 1973, when Susie mysteriously disappeared, people still believed these things didn't happen. In the sweet, untroubled voice of a precocious teenage girl, Susie relates the awful events of her death, and her own adjustment to the strange new place she finds herself. (It looks a lot like her school playground, with the good kind of swingset.) With love, longing, and a growing understanding, Susie watches her family as they cope with their grief--her father embarks on a search for the killer, her sister undertakes a feat of amazing daring, her little brother builds a fort in her honor--and begin the difficult process of healing. Heaven "is cleverly not described that well in the book, because Alice wanted your imagination to do the work and decide what Susie's heaven looks and feels like," Jackson said. "We will have to show something on film. It has to be somehow ethereal and emotional, but it can't be hokey."
I loved this book, it is just absolutely amazing. I really hope they can do a good job, Jackson's background with Heavenly Creatures should help (even though I personally am nto terribly fond of that film).

It's great for him as a filmmaker (diversity of material and genre), it's just not as great i.e. exciting for me, i would rather have him tackle a big budget tentpole pic again (like the rumored WW1 epic). Anyway, i wish him all the best. I'll check it out in a theater near me when it comes out, that's for sure.

an interesting premise
This will be good for Jackson
HE DOES NOT WANT TO GET BURNT OUT ON HUGE EPICS
So when he finishes with his smaller films he shall be
REFRESHED

It sounds like it'll be awfully heavy, corny, emotional, shlocky, and kind of boring all rolled up into one package! Which by weird coincidence sounds just like LOTR, so Jackson should do well with it.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Woah! Good job, Ahmed! Your use of a word with more than 3 syllables impresses me. I don't understand it, but I bet if I did, it'd be really funny!

It's definitely an interesting premise, however morbid and undoubtedly draining. Maybe it will make those who don't take PJ seriously do so, maybe even moreso than Heavenly Creatures.

You completely missunderstood me, Ahmed! I called myself stupid and said I was too dumb to figure out what you wrote. As I said I don't know any words with more than 3 syllables. That word "contrivances" has at least 9 syllables by my estimation. And, I'm not playing dumb just so I can refuse to acknowledge your well made point. I wouldn't do something like that.
Argggg! Now you made me call myself stupid again. If you're not careful you just might end up in my next avatar doing something with bABA!

Well I guess that means he won't be making The Hobbit for awhile or until the darn lawyers can stop being so greedy ](*,) [-X [-o< . This movie does sound fairly interesting though, for Jackson to do.

It's too late for kissing, Mr Johnson! You will appear in episode 3 of the bABA show, which is due out soon. Ergo, your humiliation is inevitable.
