Roid genuinely enjoys films but like any healthy man, does not take them nor their discussion more seriously than anyone. His views on a film are very much based on how he felt leaving them and are not influenced by outside factors such as peer pressure, expectations, love for a genre or pretentiousness.
Roid is what filmgoers should strive to be. Someone who iis there to be entertained and nothing more; whether it be a comedy, drama, popcorn flick or even a romance. He gets terribly excited about certain projects but the fanboyism he displays is once again, to ful fil the need to have fun than be an annoyance or deeply obsessed with anything. In many ways, he reminds me of myself. An honest film lover, with healthy fanboy tendencies, and a viewpoint on films thats completely pure and more often than not, correct.

You have a certain standard. You're like that brand consious shopper of clothes. You consider certain brands (equivalent to certain productions, themes or types of films) beneath you. You wish to be part of a society and are aware of the type of films that cater to this audience. Much like the other members of this society, you will, once in a while, pan those 'brands' that you consider worthy just to show how much better you are.

In itself, your taste in movies is nothing to scorn at. However, the fact that anything you don't like these films is not merely a matter of opinion but more so, an absolute truth, is what makes you a prick. So no. You are not the true film lover. You're one that is wanting to join the ranks of those that wish to critique it using a certain higher standard pretentious criteria while missing the real point of the art.

I wonder if my taste in film is even evident enough to judge?

Price, it is difficult to rate your actual 'taste' in films because you spend more time providing people with valuable insight into films or film related material than actually providing your personal feeling on them. However, unlike the rank of 'World Of Cinema Lover' which i haven't handed out yet, you're not just someone who is more intrigued by the culture, players and life in cinema but makes it a point to go out and actually watch the films themselves, which to you, takes precedence.

And what exactly would that be?

Nothing wrong with being a fangirl. However, i fail to see you even remotely dislike something where someone you like was part of the production process, which makes me suspect of your true honest critique. It feels more like you enjoyed a film only because you had the knowledge of who was involved, not that you enjoyed something that happen to be directed by someone. You also, automatically think the film will be good in your books, irregardless of if you even know anything about it.

At the same time, you seem to judge any other film completely on the surface. without looking at any subtleties or anything. This however, does make you an honest reviewer (as long as you're not being a fangirl about it) but your reviews, more often than not, completely irrelevant for to get a feeling on a film.

No. That is not what i think true art is. True art is enjoying art for what it is, not due to any outside agenda, which i believe you have more often than not.

As for sahara, one cannot always remain pretentious. even i like to hide that once in a while, when no ones around, i'll turn me on some bon jovi and listen to it.
