An amazing first 2/3rds coupled with a decent (though could have been better) last act.

Can we at least all agree on this...

Funniest movie moment of the year: A longing, desperate Robert Neville, faced with imminent death and a realization of his messianic destiny, reaches into his work desk and pulls out a picture of his family. One final glimpse at what he has lost, and loved. Setting the picture down, Neville reaches one last time into the workstation that has served his battle against the deadly virus for so long now, and pulls out a GIGANTIC FUCKING PROP HAND GRENADE.

Water isn't acidic to humans. They may have been able to swim. Or maybe even find a boat or a dingy or something.

Yes, the combination of the grenade, cubby-hole, and cure being found in the exact day and hour he's about to die, was just toooooo much. Really really lazy.

By that logic Shawshank Redemption is a mediocore predictable drama. It is a depressing movie throughout just like Legend with a death in the middle, but ti too goes from its "theme" and turns into a very happy ending that too defies a lot of logic, and I would say it has more plot holes than Legend and a much happier ending, but we forgive the film and many call it amongst the best of all time. I don't worry if a film is cliche because to be honest, the sad ending is the more cliche ending. Yes the last third needed to be developed more, but I still feel it works.

I don't understand what's so hard to believe about it? Obviously he didn't just happen upon the cubby-hole and the grenade by chance. He clearly was very thorough in putting safeguards all around his house (e.g., random guns in the living room drawer and umbrella holder?). If he was going to go through the trouble of putting up the glass wall then it would make sense that he would do it where the cubby-hole was and have some sort of weapon stashed there in case something was able to break through.

The cure being found at that time is really the only stretch, and it's a forgivable one, IMO. It's not like the specimen magically got better the instant they went done there. She could have been showing signs of recovery for awhile before they were forced down there.

So...

I'm 100% certain they will have the book ending on the DVD. Or hopefully re-release in theaters...

Because in the trailers they show Smith surrounded by the creatures with the main one breathing down his neck. Which tells me they were going to take him somewhere... and it wasn't in the movie.

I imagine this is what happened:

They had a much darker ending, but the studio heads knew the ending wouldn't work around the cheery holiday season, so they told the crew to quickly make a different ending, and thus we have a very under-developed ending. I still forgive the sloppiness of the third act, but it should have been better.

So he picks a grenade? A GRENADE?!?!?

Im sure I would stow away a grenade in every drawer in my house if there was a chance I had to deal with vampire zombies who hunt in packs!

It seemed to be his last ditch effort, the man is a military man so I'm pretty sure he knew how to defend the fort.

Ethan swimming across the Hudson River with clothes on. I'm not sure what's less realistic: that, or everything else people have mentioned.

Boats would be less realistic?

They could find a boat to row across the river. Touche.

Then they'd have to find a car still functional after three years of disuse, with keys lying around.

Maybe Anna commandeered a big ship, and we just don't know that in the movie. The immune should've set to sea with a fleet of aircraft carriers... those things last decades without refueling.

Car dealerships?

I know Smith drives multiple cars in the movie.

Now the real question would be, is the car they were driving at the end the same one they had in New York?

Actually... conveniently enough I'm not sure if we could discern that hmmm... Dont think we saw the outside of the car while they were on the island.

Saw it again today. I think the film is a lot better the 2nd time. I think there is a little bit of dissappointment going in at first. The ending is better, the atmosphere is better, and the lack of any real action is very good. Very confident in it's A- grade now.

Umm... The car she used to save Nevelle had UV bulbs to make the creatures run off.

So... unless she magically found a car with that equipment attached then they had to have driven onto the island... somehow!!!

Not sure how you could make that call, seeing as how smith's vision was completely blurred and we didn't see the vampire zombies being burned. Did she talk about it?

And also, is it more likely she found that equipment where she was?

Umm... then how could she have gotten to him?

There were 10+ creatures surrounding him, and she blared her lights on them as she came to save him.

So obviously they were not normal lights.

Well he took out a lot of them with his car, like 20 it seemed. 10 is cake!
