Re: Lake Of Fire May Have Best Documentary Locked Up
I think the abortion scenes you describe are gonna be what keep it from WINNING the big prize. It sounds similar to last year's Deliver Us from Evil in how it's powerful for those that stomach it. It's probably good for a nom and some critics awards, if not a win.
Still, I really want to see it.
How would you rank among other docus that you've seen, like Grizzly Man and such?

This just solidifies this as a must-see for me, allthough I think you should refrain from making the titular claim you have until after you've seen one of the very best films I've seen all year, No End in Sight.

I really wanna see it. I even thought the photo they ran with the Times article the other day was pretty chilling: http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/10/03/movies/03fire.html

Re: Lake Of Fire May Have Best Documentary Locked Up
Yeah, after reading that... this movie is going to be way too intense for academy voters. Also, judging by everything I've read, I can't possibly see any scenario where this movie could be viewed as pro-choice. Neutral, maybe. But it seems to have a decidedly pro-life slant. I can't imagine this flying in Hollywood.

Re: Lake Of Fire May Have Best Documentary Locked Up
with "Sicko" being a much better film from Moore than pretty much all of his past work, and seeing how it had a very good box office intake [third highest grossing doc of all-time, after two phenomenons], I think Documentary is far from locked up for any other film. Not saying "Sicko" will win, but it's definitely a frontrunner right now.

The most boring line up of titles ever. Except Autism: The Musical, which we know can't be that great cuz it's in a documentary section. All I've seen is Sicko (more like Sucko). The only other documentary I've seen this year (: () is My Kid Could Paint That, which is definitely worthy. But yknow, they are dumb.

Awesome! I was afraid "For The Bible Tells Me So" wouldn't get in. I dunno how good a chance it has, but it was really good. Hopefully it makes it. And Sicko is the only other documentary I've seen so far, but it's no surprise it's in.

I couldn't sleep last night. Oh shit Loyal now I have to go see this movie. At my school, some anti abortion protestrs set up billboards with photos of actual abortions and it made me almost hurl on some fool next to me. Shocking to see what second/third trimester abortions looks like.

It sounds like something his little conservative mind would come up with. I'm disappointed in you, kypade.

I've only seen 3 of the above, so I can't provide much insight. hmm, i'm surprised at some of the films [notably Kong] missing from there. If I had to guess the noms, I'd go with Sicko, No End in Sight, Lake of Fire, War/Dance, and Promise to the Dead. It's not as strong a lineup as it could've been if there were more to choose from.

A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman sounds interesting.

Re: Lake Of Fire May Win Best Documentary (Shortlist Up)
I saw For Lake if fire last night, i came out thinking 2 things.
1.There are some real fucking wakos in the pro-life movement, you can see it in their faces some of them were crazy, scared the shit out of me.
2.Abortion is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen and evil. Those who say those are fetus getting aborted not babies, well you know what? What that guy showed was a full blown baby getting burn to pieces and it kept me up a few hours, i really almost vomited.

I have only seen War/Dance and Sicko out of all of those but I plan on watching "For The Bible Tells Me So" and "Lake of Fire" when I have the chance.

Nanking continues to gather very good reviews. The category is loaded this year.
