 Re: Animated Feature Shortlist
I actually think Persepolis could very well be nominated - it's gotten a lot of acclaim and is being released by Sony Picture Classics and other than Ratatouille and Beowulf almost all those other films sound pretty dire.

I don't think Shrek 3 makes it. Only 42% on RT.

Beowulf is considered animated? The Polar Express was too. Considering TPE didn't get nominated and Beowulf will likely get worse reviews, its chance is very slim.

To be fair The Polar Express wasn't even fresh on RT, and no offense Levy but considering I've heard just as many people going ga-ga for the film as loathing it I'm not convinced it'll be critically trashed just yet. Also 2004 had much, much more competition in this category than 2007. That said, motion capture probably has yet to be accepted enough, so unless Beowulf makes back it's budget domestically I think it's chances are quite slim.

Well how the heel did SHARK TALE end up nominated then as it was obviously trashed a lot?

 Re: Animated Feature Shortlist
I was wrong earlier this year when I suggested
Beowulf Shrek The Third Rat movie.
I should have said
Beowulf The Simpsons Movie Rat Movie.
Tekkonkinkreet is the best film on there that I've seen and is my overall #3 film for this year at this juncture.

 Re: Animated Feature Shortlist
81% for Beowulf at RT; look like a solid contender now, especially if it could get some box office help.

 Re: Animated Feature Shortlist
Don't get me wrong Levy, you're an awesome poster and one of the few whose been on here as long as I have. But I gotta say, I'm rather pleased that the general reaction to Beowulf has been quite the opposite of yours and those at your screenings. Many say that they were more impressed by the storytelling than the visuals so I don't think it's fair to say they were just blinded by the 3D, though I'm sure it did help. It'll be a tight three-way race between Persepolis, Beowulf and Simpsons Movie for the two unreserved spots for Best Animated Feature, and at this point I'm positive that a combination of those four will be the nominees.
