86. Hotel Rwanda

Don Cheadle was amazing and reminiscent of Ralph Finnes in Schindler's List.

Actually the film is referred to as Africa's Schindler's List. This film was really well made and was very inspirational and so tragic at the same time.

that line was so cruel but so tragically true. We could not care less if millions die in war in Africa as we have this notion thats what always has been happening in Africa...

last one for today (before going to watch house)....

A pick dr.lecter would like and a film you must all watch...

85. Downfall

Image

I don't know about you guys but Hitler came off as a decent person when he was his secretary ... :funny: However you saw his anger and rage and it was done well by a great performance by Bruno Ganz.

The supporting cast is just spectacular. You get chilling performances from the infamous Dr. Goebbels and Heinrich Himmler. Eva Brown was just strange and actually its a whole Nazi reunion of the who's who of the third Reich...

Nonetheless you see that Hitler was not the only crazy guy as he was surrounded by many of them. The suicides of all the Nazi leaders is shown and the infamous case where Dr. Goebbels wife kills her 4-5 children is haunting and shows the madness about the whole thing...

The rage and anger in Hitlers out bursts against his subordinates just shows how mad the man was and how good he was at speaking really.

However i disliked the fact they try to portray a few of the Nazi leaders as good guys or hero's however you have to make someone like a good guy....

Apart from that, the action scenes were few but were good, the sad realization by some of the people is done rather well.

nonetheless its may 2nd favourite German film and you can guess what is first...

A film made on a great book and its a great adaptation of one of the greatest tales of revenge ever.

The acting is great, the scenery is wonderful and the time period really makes this film look stylish. Even though any person with a basic knowledge of western literature already knows the story...

Great selection! This film is very underrated.

well really all of the people around him did some bad things of some sort... like the the doctor who was shown as a hero was experimenting on prisoners in concentration camps and the sympathetic General was a murderous general...

However its better having a lower profile guy being the hero rather then making Dr. Goebbels or Himmler as the hero... :funny: :funny: Now that would be wrong...

enough talk about the Nazi's, i have noticed people get really off topic when we mention these guys. An evil but fascinating group of people...

The new films will dominate the list until around number 50 or so...

83.X2: X-Men United
Image

Based on a comic book which was a child hood favourite of mine..

Easily one of the best comic book films ever made. Screw the overrated Superman and Spider man films!! It had the perfect combination of a an amazing intriguing storyline and the spectacular, enjoyable action. With night crawler beating up the secret service to Mozart's Requiem to Magneto acting so cool you get really good acting and great action which is quite rare in these kinds of films and is quite rare in modern day cinema (transformers proves this... :grrr: !!)

It is very re watchable and is the the only good film in the franchise and imo its one of those few present day films I really enjoyed...

I come with you guys a film about the real man in black...

82. Walk the Line

Image

A film about an American legend which a Canadian really enjoys :funny: :funny: . A man who is easily the best country singer ever, so good that even you don't like country music you would find some of his songs good. Phoenix is great in his role and Reese is just so charming and pleasant in this film. Phoenix really captures the real charm of the Man in black. The singing is great and easily is the high lite!!!! The storyline is wonderful and the acting is top notch!!! A film about someone i had no idea about but when i watched it, i became an adoring fan.

It is one of thew few musical biopics i like, must go overboard with drama and music but this mixes it well with a great feel good story line...

Post Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists Vol.2 - Mannyisthebest
i mentioned i would have 4 hindi films on my list as i have an Indian background.

81. Deewar (Hindi) (1975) (the wall)

Image

Okay, well really there is an actor in India called Amitabh Bachchan and really his popularity and fame is like comparable to like Jack Nicholson or Robert De Niro . He was the big boy in the 70's and 80's and is still the big big in the new century. Now combine the two and x3 and you understand. :funny:

Now take his best performance ever and you have a sick ass film.

A film with such great dialogues actually its one of the best imo and it tells the story of two brothers who grow up to become different people (one good and one bad) and the troubles they face to stay as a family.

Amitabh plays the young angry rebellious man and it was groundbreaking for a hindi film for it not to be focused on the music and dancing and fantasy really which it is stereotypically and rightly known for even today. However this film 27 years ago broke that trend and it broke many taboo's as well.

Nonetheless a great film, you guys won't understand.

80.The Lion King

Image

A childhood favourite of mine and it easily is one of the better made animation films. With great classic songs and great iconic scenes it is actually like a animation classic now.

The storyline is wonderful and every character is just amazing and the songs are catchy and fun to listen to.
Hukana Matata, Be Prepared, Circle of Life, I Just Can't Wait to Be King are just fun songs i never get tired of..

Actually its the rare time i enjoyed an English film with songs in it...

to keep track i have had...

Quote:
Lion King
Deewar (Hindi)
Walk The Line
X2: X-Men United
Y tu Mama Tambien
Downfall
Hotel Rwanda
Count of Monte Cristo
Silence of the Lambs
Chinatown
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
A Clockwork Orange
Pulp Fiction
The Karate Kid
Braveheart
Ben-Hur (1959)
The African Queen
All about Eve
Gone With The Wind
Citizen Cane
The 10 Commandments

79. Back to the Future

Image

Now this a great fun film that is so good. The storyline is simple yet intriguing and very entertaining. Actually this is one of the most entertaining films ever however what sets it different is that it is rather well made.

Fox is great and the crazy man is just wonderful and this film is heavily featured in our pop culture.

Its easily a gem of the 80's...

Pretty diverse list so far and I'm eager to see how it continues.

However, Back to the Future should be way, way higher. :)

talking about diversity....

78. Memento

One messed up weird film that was quite confusing and had me shaking my head for a while, however by watching it a 2nd time I saw its brilliance...

It was quite realistic and quite a thrilling and sometimes a scary experience...

The next 4 are three Japanese films and one hindi film....

Magnus had this film on his list so he knows what this is...

77. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Image

Cultural and box office equivalent in Hollywood ??

Titanic...

Made in 1995 it features the most brilliant modern Hindi actor Shahrukh Khan.

Its the simple story of a boy and girl falling in love and then girl's father does everything to stop this love affair. Sure it sounds cliche and everything but the film is very well made with great acting, great scenery and best of all great music...

The music in the film is so fun and enjoyable to listen to. This film is so popular in India that was on in one cinema house for ten years!!

Now three Japanese films in a row by the same guy, wierd.. :ninja:
76. Howls Moving Castle

Image

About all of these films they start of soooooooooo good but have stupid melodramatic endings...
However these films are done and made in a different way and there story lines do differ from English films.

The film itself if visually breathtaking taking place in a Pre WW1 like Europe and its scope and size is quite epic. The character are cool, funny and interesting and the storyline is wonderful. The start of the film is visually breath taking really especially with the music.

However the ending really lowers this film done quite a bit....

75. Mononoke-Hime (Princess Mononoke)

each of these movies all have a lot of Japanese culture and this one is set during the age of the samurai and this film is prehaps the most Japanese or the most mythical and spiritual out of all of them, so its harder for a westerner to understand..

However this film is better then Howls moving castle as the ending is more satisfactory however it is never really brilliant.

Biggest Japanese film ever grossing over 250 million dollars and was seen by 1/6 in Japan.

74. Spirited Away

Image

I dislike the ending as i find it to be too perfect really.

Nonetheless, the film is magically beautiful with such a wide range of characters lovable and fearsome and I may I ask why must the main guy in all of these films always becomes a monster???

The high lite is the character called no-face as he is a scary beast and a creepy stealthy quite thing at the same time.

However it is a feel good film nonetheless.
