From Zap2it.com : UPN's Schedule Makes Room for 'Sex' (Thursday, May 19 08:00 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) UPN's new schedule, announced on Thursday (May 19) features a new injection of star power and an aggressive comedy move on Thursday night. In its ongoing battle with The WB for fifth, UPN has moved "WWE Smackdown!" off of Thursdays and cancelled the heavily hyped freshman drama "Kevin Hill," aiming for new offerings featuring Chris Rock, Shannen Doherty and Denis Richards. The netlet has also made the under-watched, but critically adored drama "Veronica Mars" the beneficiary of its strongest launching pad. As usual, UPN's week begins with a Monday comedy block, powered by "One on One" at 8 p.m. ET. "All of Us" moves to the 8:30 slot from Tuesday night, as "Girlfriends" and "Half & Half" stay in their familiar homes. UPN will start Tuesday with "Sex, Lies & Secrets," an ensemble drama featuring Richards and the prolific Eric Balfour ("Hawaii"). Encores of "America's Next Top Model" will be allowed to tread water in the tough 9 p.m. hour. New episodes of "America's Next Top Model" will stay on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m., where the dramality modeling series has become the defining show in UPN's reach for young female viewers. After a difficult season on Tuesdays, "Veronica Mars" gets the coveted post-"Model" spot, a home the network hopes might bring its audience up to the same level as its cult buzz. Although the Thursday wrestling block was a UPN institution, the netlet has decided to go after what it seems as an untapped comedy market, starting with "Everybody Hates Chris," narrated by Rock and based on his experiences as a teenager in Brooklyn in the early '80s. "Eve" takes the 8:30 slot, followed by "Cuts," earning a second season. Another new comedy, "Love, Inc.," anchors the night, featuring television favorites Shannen Doherty and Holly Robinson Peete. "WWE Smackdown!" will now dominate Friday, where its testosterone-driven antics will draw familiar ratings without tainting the rest of UPN's schedule. As if the profiles of Rock, Richards and Doherty weren't high enough, UPN has ordered "South Beach," from executive producer Jennifer Lopez, for midseason. I'm a bit surprised that they cancelled Kevin Hill. I personally think they should have kept it. I'm sure it would have grown in viewers. But oh well. I'm just extremely happy they are bringing VERONICA MARS back! Easily one of the very best shows on TV and one of the best shows EVER! Can't wait for the next season! Actually, I can't wait for the first season to be on DVD! Then I can't wait for the second season! I don't know if I'll watch any of their other shows. We'll see. If any of them end up looking good I very well could. I might watch the Denise Richards/Eric Balfour show. Too bad VERONICA MARS will be up against LOST. It's not an issue for me though because LOST can kiss my ass. I only saw the first couple of episodes and it was nothing special. Plus I heard that the show just brings up more questions than it answers. I could care less about it. VERONICA MARS all the way! |

Fell asleep both times. I heard it compared to Buffy, but alas, there were no vampires. Since it's all a matter of opinion, It's all good, right? ![]() |

Yep, it's all a matter of opinion, so I don't care. But if you fell asleep during MARS you must have a very short attention span ![]() If you saw the show from the beginning I don't see how you could not at least "like" it. It's not highly praised with a big cult following for nothing. |

It's not highly praised with a big cult following for nothing. Well, honestly, I hear all the praise, and have on-line friends that go on and on about it which is why I checked it out. I've also read the reviews, and know that it's a good show. But, I think my TV quota is full as to what I want to give my time to. And the Veronica Mars ship sailed without me. Tuesday night Amazing Race makes great "Comfort TV". (Meaning that I apparently can only obsess on so many shows at a given time. ![]() ![]() Battlestar Galactica. Rah! |

Maybe you could check out VERONICA MARS this summer if its reruns air in order, otherwise you could check it out when it hits DVD. I know if I don't see a show from the beginning I don't enjoy it as much. I can't stand not seeing a show in order. So if you didn't see MARS in order then I'm sure that's why you didn't enjoy it as much. Then if you do dig the first season you can just record the second season while you watch the second season of LOST. I'll probably try and catch LOST on DVD. I'm certain that's a show that won't air in order this summer. |

I think UPN caters way too much for ethnic audiences; its almost like they are excluding white auds. |

Matt Roush of TV Guide says that he thinks Everybody Hates Chris will be the big breakout show next year. He says it was hilarious, and by far the funniest comedy he saw at the upfronts. http://www.tvguide.com/tv/roush/dispatches/ Edited to add more comments from TV Guide about Everybody Hates Chris. Quote: If there was a laugh meter at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, Chris Rock's new UPN sitcom pinned the needle. Everybody Hates Chris will kick off the UPN lineup on Thursday at 8. It's an urban Wonder Years, with Rock doing the voiceover. the show is based on his childhood in a tough Brooklyn neighborhood and the all-white junior high school that was a two hour bus ride away. The thinking inside UPN is that it can take down NBC's Joey. Yes, it seems like a world gone mad when UPN sitcoms crush NBC on a Thursday. But Rock's show will emerge as the most highly touted show on the 2005-06 fall schedules unveiled to advertisers this week. The audience of ad buyers (and hardworking journalists covering TV) were pretty fried by Thursday morning, but Everybody Hates Chris had them roaring. Count the Biz as a fan as well. We wonder if it will be able to keep the high bar set in the pilot (a concern that hasn't been raised lately because we haven't seen anything this good in years). UPN entertainment chief Dawn Ostroff assured us that Rock will be heavily involved in the production and his narration will be part of every episode.
