She's TV-level. As is Milo.

Last week's episode was actually really good. This show should be set in the past.

I thought the same, but I guess the balance is better. I just can't really stand anyone in the present day besides Sterling K. Brown.

This is my problem. The twins are insufferable and so are their love interests.

Toby is in the running for the worst character on television. He's so fucking obnoxious.

OK, I hate to admit it but this show got to me with last night's episode :P Kevin leaving the opening to console Randall was a wonderful, tearjerking moment even if it was completely unrealistic. Sterling was incredible as per usual.

I don't understand your hatred for Toby. I mean, he's not great, but he's irritating at worst.

And Kevin has been mostly good/great the last 2-3 episodes.

I actually like Kevin now after Tuesday's episode :P

I just think Toby is such an unlikable asshole.

umm ok

Anyway...

I definitely teared up bigtime when Kevin ran to Randall.

I feel like there should be a special award at the Emmys for Ron Cephas Jones and Sterling K. Brown where they don't even have to compete with other actors, lmao.

Still wrecked. Even my beloved Parenthood never made me cry as much as "Memphis" did, including the infamous "Kristina thinks she might die and records video for her kids" scene.

Eh, "Parenthood" was better. "Friday Night Lights" was better.

It was still a strong episode because of the performances. And the last speech was very moving.

I mean, I consistently bawled at Parenthood. And while this makes me cry, mainly because of the performances by Sterling, Parenthood was vastly superior in getting me to connect to the characters.

I have such a love/hate relationship with this show, but man. Between the ending with Kevin and Randall last week, and this entire episode this week, the show got me. I don't even really connect with the characters that much, which may be a flaw, but it's more about connecting on a bigger level, with life, family, death, with the things that connect us all. I'll forgive the show's (many) flaws, but what I love most is that the writers really know how to tap into those universal feelings and experiences.

Is Ron Cepha Jones competing in Supporting or Guest? I feel like if the main cast is all pulling a "Friends" and going supporting, someone like Jones should be able to go for Guest. They both deserve awards for this. I love moments where I forget I'm watching two actors, and they were able to make me forget that for the whole hour.

Ugh last night's episode was cheesy shit. Kevin's arc doesn't make any sense.

Susan Kelechi Watson was wonderful though.

I have to say that the last couple of episodes haven't been up to par to what the show offered so far IMHO. Hopefully it's just a slight creative bump.

"Memphis" was definitely the creative high point of the season and an absolutely wonderful episode.

The finale was a little frustrating in that it didn't answer more questions, specifically about how Jack died. But Jack and Rebecca's big fight was so well written and performed.

Post subject:  Re: This Is Us

I'm actually surprised at the finale backlash. I thought it was a wonderful episode and ending to the season. And ballsy to devote (almost) the entire episode to Jack and Rebecca, especially when the show just devoted an entire episode to Randall and his father two shows ago.

A major cop out? For sure. But I'm OK not having all the answers yet. And the show has basically been built on twists. Once they showed Jack drinking and driving last week, I figured the show wouldn't take the obvious road.

I enjoyed the finale mostly because I find Mandy to be the best part of the show other than Sterling. Their big fight was incredibly well-acted.

Right. Outside of Sterling, the flashbacks are the best part.

Post subject:  Re: This Is Us

I like to think the show is about Jack and Rebecca, with flash forwards sprinkled in.

Not a fan of Kevin, but I love Alexandra Breckenridge so I find that storyline tolerable.

Stallone will be in Season Two. I guess I'll have to watch this now.

That's great...although I still have to finish season. After they had that mid-season break, I didn't get myself to watch the remaining episode.

Post subject:  Re: This Is Us

Stallone is only guest starring, and I assume only in one episode. But it should be a good episode. I have no idea what the show is about, so not sure if it's in a comedic role or a dramatic one. I hope it is similar to his role in Las Vegas. I wonder how he got the role. I assume that Milo suggested him so he could reignite the father-son thing from Rocky Balboa.
