Anyone watch Join or Die With Craig Ferguson?

The Craig we love is alive and well, but the format doesn't suit him. Maybe I'm just missing The Late Late version, but this isn't the greatest use of his talents. More of Craig comes through on Celebrity Name Game.

Of course it was only one episode (a second episode aired afterwards, which I've yet to see), but I'm not super excited. I'll keep watching to see Craig though.

I obviously want to watch it with Craig. I wonder if it'll pop up on Hulu.

Man, I find myself looking forward to watching the week of James Corden way more than Colbert lately. It breaks my heart to say it but Colbert is starting to disappoint me. It's too little from someone who can give so much. He's stuck in cruise control right now.

Corden, meanwhile, is impressing me more and more. I think he relies too heavily on viral bits that are just an attempt to copy Fallon's success, but I really like his style. A year after his debut and I feel like he has adjusted well. A big reason for his success is Reggie Watts. I wasn't sure about Watts at first, but he's the best sidekick in late night right now.

No way, Andy and Higgins are leagues above him.

Andy is probably a better sidekick, yes, but I'm not a fan of Higgins. Smart writer for sure, but I find no appeal in him as a sidekick.

Am I crazy or was Ariana Grande one of the better hosts SNL has had in a long time? I was impressed. Had no expectations at all.

He's not a sidekick. Just an announcer/ writer and contributes a lot to that show's success, but every bit he adds to only makes Fallon's responses even better. Also he rocks at all the games. Take away the other guy and James would still shine.

How is he not a sidekick? That description means Andy Richter isn't a sidekick either. And definitely means Reggie Watts isn't a sidekick.

If the host goes to a specific person for a response every night, that person is technically a sidekick. Actually, Meredith the Producer is turning into a sidekick on Colbert.

No, she was actually really quite good. I was surprised. Her JLaw impression was perfect!

Seriously, her timing was great and she was solid in just about every sketch. I know she has an acting background but still. Really solid performance from her.

Grande was great on SNL.

Also, Colbert/TDL are the only two late night shows I watch.

I was just ready to pull my hair out for not knowing what TDL was.

How is TDS? I watched his first night but never went back.

I usually catch an episode or two a week - the only real bright spots are the correspondents. Trevor's OK, just doesn't bring much bite to him.

I do enjoy Larry Wilmore's correspondents the most though and his show overall. Samantha Bee has been pretty strong out of the gate too.

It's not nearly on the level of where it was, but Jon had many many many years of experience. And sometimes you can tell Trevor is still getting his feet under him. But he's still a very funny, sharp comedian.

Well I'd argue Higgins takes no point in interviews. Though I won't argue that his contribution isn't better. Andy has played a lot, as has Higgins. Singer I found they his name really is just a bit, and no where near.

OK so I watched Corden for my first time the other night, with Diane Lane and Paul Rudd. And he did the thing where he brings them both on together? Does he do that often? Well, the first segment was interesting and neat... but then it kept going for the whole show? It got weird.

He keeps them all out there together. It must be a British thing because Graham Norton does the dame thing on his show. I like it.

Well I've watched the Graham Norton stuff before, and it's way less weird.

No that's standard Corden. I think it works great a lot of the time. Celebs seem more game for it now, whereas in the early days, some were a bit put off by the format (especially if he favors someone even slightly more than the rest). He has a bit too much Fallon-esque laughter going on with celebs, but I think it's the best interview format going right now. Of course nothing would top Craigy Ferg's style, but I like something different.

Last night he again did an entire episode in someone's home, complete with celebrity guests. I love that he does this stuff. Most of his shtick is reliant entirely on viral-ready bits like Carpool Karaoke (fun as it is), but occasionally he does this out-of-left-field stuff that is a lot of fun and breaks the monotony of late night TV, which to be honest, is completely lacking in anything edgy or different.

Post Re: Late Night NBC discussion thread
It's become routine that Colbert interacts with producer Meredith, and honestly, I wish he would stop going to Jon Batiste and stick with her. She's a more naturally likable personality, where Jon tries way too hard to be funny. It's a talented, fun band, but there's a reason why Conan doesn't go often to Jimmy Vivino: he doesn't have the talent to be funny on camera. Max Weinberg was funny because Conan worked off his complete lack of on-camera readiness. The same should apply to Batiste. I know it's awkward, but those interactions kill momentum.

I really enjoy when he asks Batiste questions. And I really REALLY enjoy Batiste doing his "how to play this instrument" segments.
