James Corden announced as new host of "The Late Late Show"

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2014/0 ... ow/300632/

I'm fine with this. Corden's a funny guy from what I've seen him in and he'll actually get a lot of exposure right before his show premiere with him being in Into the Woods.

I'm iffy. From what I've read, the majority don't like him and find him irritating. I know we'll all be judging him against Craig, but I would like someone at least DECENTLY entertaining.

Speaking of, I caught Seth Meyers a few times last week and have to say I found the show vastly improved. He isn't the least bit edgy but I'm okay with that. As long as I laugh.

Anyone watch Celebrity Name Game?

It's highly breezy and would be easily forgettable without Craig Ferguson. The celebs so far are the typical bunch that do these shows. I can't imagine watching this on a regular basis. Too bad for Ferguson. He would kill it on a Family Feud, but here the format is so paper-thin that it's hard to keep coming back. The best parts are his interactions.

Please never take Family Feud away from Steve Harvey, TV gods.

I saw Celebrity Name Game on the TV guide the other day and had no Ferguson was hosting it. You're right - he does deserve better though.

Oh well, of course, Steve Harvey has pretty much redefined hosting Family Feud. But I'm just saying in a hypothetical situation where Harvey isn't the host, Ferguson would be great on that type of show where the host is the dominant voice of the show.

Celebrity Game Night is enjoyable and a lot of it is due to Craig. Though it is nice having this on right before Late Late Show so I get some extended time with Craig this fall.

The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson ends Dec. 19.

The Colbert Report ends on Dec. 18.

I knew it was coming in December, but in a matter of two days? It's a Christmas nightmare. :(

im still baffled that people are ok with Jimmy Fallon getting away with being a horrible interviewer and having a crappy monologue. i saw an episode the other day and was just amazed how bad he still is all these years later.

I guess his stupid sketches are all that matter.

It's ungodly. I've watched a few shows over the last month, mainly to see a few notable names (Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper) and while the bits with the celebs are fun (the egg russian roulette game was aces), everything else is shit. The monologue is lifeless, the bits at the desk suck (do people really love these Thank You Notes?), his interviews are the worst I've ever seen, and Steve Higgins, when he hits, can be the lone bright spot. But when Steve Higgins misses (which is more often than not), he's dreadful.

I don't get it. And I get it that his kiss-ass, geeky-laugh interviews are what attracts the huge names. They love having their ego stroked. But there's so little to like, I can't believe people buy into it. Kids love anything that's A. quick to watch in less than eight minutes, and B. involves a celebrity they love. Which about sums up his career.

I mean, good for him. No one would have predicted this ten years ago that Fallon would not only host The Tonight Show but be a huge presence in late night. He so narrowly avoided the fate of many SNLers before him. If not for the deal he struck with Lorne Michaels to basically sit as the heir to Conan's Late Night throne for a couple of years, he would have a few box office bombs and maybe two or three failed pilots.

I also don't think Colbert is going to dethrone him. He's not as high up as Jon Stewart with recognition and I don't think even Stewart would pull it off now. That's unfortunate because Fallon is hardly pulling monster ratings. A few stronger lead-ins for Kimmel and he'd be higher up.

Glad to see a few favorites return. Kristen Bell, Betty White, Jon Hamm. Sad that there aren't bigger stars but he probably wouldn't want them anyway.

I was kind of hoping to see Scarlett Johannsson. His interview with her in March is what got me hooked on Craigy Ferg.

What I'm surprised about is that there is no Capaldi considering how good of friends they are and he's hasn't appeared at all during his Doctor Who run.

Also they should just give a season order to Point/Counterpoint, sorry Count/Countercount

The Minority Report With Larry Wilmore has been renamed The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.

They tossed the clever title to go with an opposing title to The Daily Show. Cute, but I liked The Minority Report more.

So Craig was fantastic last night and so was Josh Robert Thompson, though it was weird seeing him do some of the impressions in person and not as Geoff.

But what disappointed me was that myself and like only four other people at the show did the Secretariat dance when Secretariat came out. It's like everyone else were not true fans of the show.

Great night though.

Looks like Drew Carey will guest host the weeks of January 5 and March 2. Other guest hosts during this time will be:

Judd Apatow
Will Arnett
Wayne Brady
Jim Gaffigan
Billy Gardell
Sean Hayes (will probably be the worst episodes)
Tom Lennon
John Mayer
Kunal Nayyar

There will be a late-night edition of The Talk airing in the Late Late slot from January 12-16.

The only two that will probably do well are Drew and Wayne. Actor types like Arnett, Hayes and Nayyar won't be natural fits for a late night show. Comedians like Gaffigan and Gardell could be OK, but neither feels like they're the right fit either (and I love Gaffigan). God knows with John Mayer.

Too bad The Talk will be done on their set. If they had a true sense of humor, they would do it from TLLS studio and have some fun with the format.

A few on my wish list: Josh Groban (never would have thought of him if not for Mayer, but he's a fun guy), Amy Schumer, Chris Hardwick, Joel McHale.

Someone said (theorized or maybe it's true?) that CBS is doing the guest hosts in case Corden bombs, which I think is a strong possibility.
