Pawn Stars?
I love this show, It seems like the History channel is the place to go if you want your own reality show though. Every week it seems like there are new bizarre shows premiering, and a lot of them are pretty good.
I can watch a few hours of Pawn Stars anytime though.

Re: Pawn Stars?
I was watching episode after episode of this on Netflix. I like the dad most. He's always laughing but is serious when he needs to be. Most of the time it seems he can get the customer to go with his price. A few times he caved in giving up more than he wanted to spend. I like the old weaponry they purchase. I also like when he buys and old item and gets it's completely refurbished to sell. I think his son is a bit annoying and the other guy is just idiota. The grandpa is funny at times as well.

Re: Pawn Stars?
The son was definitely a weak link with Chum, but now it seems the son is a lot more knowledgable now, and coming into his own.

Re: Pawn Stars?
I dislike how most of the people that go in, have NO idea how to haggle. They always start way high and then go WAY low after the first offer. Stupid people.
But I love this show.

Re: Pawn Stars?
This and American Pickers are pretty awesome TV. Just goes to show what an incredibly likeable cast of real characters can do for you. I never really feel like I'm watching typical reality TV. Sure, some of the staff situations on Pawn Stars are incredibly forced and fake, but those moments come up once every few episodes and don't dominate the show.
Anyone catch Hardcore Pawn? I like that too. It's more about the Gold Family and the customers than the actual items.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Everyone I've told about the show likes it. It's not prescription TV and it's not meant to be. You see it when it's on and you watch it.
Pawn Stars is routinely the highest-rated weekly show on cable and the American Pickers aren't far behind.
Canadian Pickers started here last week. Not a bad cheap imitation, but lacking in Mike and Frank's likeability.

I can watch a few hours of Pawn Stars anytime though. I enjoy it as well, but to put this on the History Channel and not Discovery is an interesting choice for the people involved.. I see nowhere with Pawn Stars what this has to do with History.. Hell, even put it on A&E..

Re: Pawn Stars?
If you watch Pawn Stars, it has a LOT to do with history. 95% of items brought in have something to do with history.

They are always providing historical information on the pieces they show. My favorites are the old antique weaponry and especially when they attempt to actually fire them. That's the coolest part imo.

But Pawn Stars? Nah, it's way more History than Discovery. As is American Pickers. The History Channel doesn't have to be all WWII.

Really getting into this and Top Shot now, Chumlee buying a fake Gibson has to be a highlight so far.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Anyone ever watch Auction Kings? I'm not starting a whole thread for it, but it's in the same ballpark of Pawn Stars. I watched some of it today, but can't really get into it. What works best on Pawn is that everyone is, more or less, likable and plays well to the camera. I find the lead guy on Auction Kings tries too hard. Like he's a normal guy trying to be a TV guy, but he can't pull it off. He's not camera ready.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Actually this is the 2nd most popular reality show after Jersey Shore on TV.
Best part about the show are the characters.
The son and Chum Lee act funny together. Chum lee is hilarious.
The old man is funny and the main guy is smart and knows his stuff.
Also their shop is now a tourist attraction in Las Vegas. Next time I go, I am going to their shop for sure.
I like Ice Road Truckers as well, its mostly done now as they have done most of the roads.
These shows may not have much to do with history but its much better then watching other reality based shows like Jersey shore and a lot of people are liking and watching these shows. Another big hit show is Storage wars, my friends watch it because the they like Brandi.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Oooh I love me some Storage Wars. Pawn Stars is a pretty solid time-burner too.
I drove by the store with some friends when I went to Vegas last year, and the line out the door was ridiculous. I bet it's even more busy now.

I can pretty much watch any of the shows. Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, American Pickers, etc.
All good. Interesting.

Re: Pawn Stars?
I like Storage wars as the characters are interesting.
You have the big boss man, the old timer who is fooling around, the guy who has been around a while but not that successful and the couple as underdogs.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Cajun porn stars is awful. These shows are really enjoyable, but it all depends on the characters who narrate.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Anyone watch the Pawn/Pickers/Restoration crossover last summer? It was so awesome when all three show stars came together towards the end of the Pickers portion. Felt reminiscent of the old crossovers from 15+ years ago.

Re: Pawn Stars?
Cajun Pawn Stars is the creepiest shit ever. Granted, the Vegas show isn't exactly high art, but it's a good, easy, unpretentious fun.
The equivalent of Corey on the Cajun version sends my skin crawling. His voice, his demeanor, his existence. Just...ugh.
