Liam McIntyre Is The New Spartacus, To Succeed Andy Whitfield On Starz Drama

Quote:
The search for a replacement of cancer-stricken Spartacus star Andy Whitfield is over. Australian actor Liam McIntyre has been named the new star of the Starz drama series, which became a breakout hit for the pay cable channel when it first launched a year ago. McIntyre was one of 3 actors who were flown to New Zealand to audition in November. He was the only one that remained in consideration after the test while the network continued to see other candidates. Starz brass reportedly liked his acting abilities but he was asked to bulk up his thin frame in order to pass off as a believable gladiator. In announcing McIntyre's casting, Starz said he "has excelled at a grueling and rigorous audition process to claim the title role in the second season" of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Did anyone watch Gods of the Arena? I thought the first episode was good. Spartacus started horrible but it turned out to be pretty fantastic by the end. So I won't make much of this premiere.

Though I see that Lucretia doesn't have her red wig, but Gaia does. I can see Gaia making Lucretia sleep with her gladiator (Crixus obviously) then threaten her to tell Batiatus about it and then Lucreatia kills her and takes her wig... :funny:

So nobody watched Gos of the Arena? It wasn't as good as Spartacus was when the show ended its first season run, but it got there with its final episode. There was some really great and surprising stuff happening in Gods and it only made Spartacus' story even better.

Can't wait for Blood and Sand Season 2!

I have Gods of the Arena all dl'd, but just haven't had the time to watch; same with House--watched first five eps, and have dl'd the rest and not watched yet. Just been keeping up on Chuck and American Idol. That's all I can handle during this semester. But I'll definitely post my opinion about GotA when I see it.

Not bad. Hopefully everything works out for Andy Whitfield and he gets a role as good as Spartacus, Im eyeing him as Mance Rayder in season 3 of GOT

I just finished rewatching Blood and Sand and watching Gods of the Arena for the first time. I loved both, but while I think Blood was a bit better overall, I was more moved emotionally by the stories in GOTA, largely thanks to the actor who played Gannicus. I look forward to eventually watching the next season.

Liam ain't Andy. Even though he looks the part he's lacking that charisma. At least he didn't impress me in the first episode. Which was pretty good. But season starters have never been among better episodes in both Spartacus series so far. Things will get progressively much better if Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena are any indication.

Something definately is off about the first season episode. It doesnt have much to do with Liam but I felt some parts of the episode were little jagged and incoherent. Why did Doctore leave them? Not much detail on Crixus own faction and the part where Spartacus quickly rescues Varro's widow is really cliched. Maybe it will get better again like it did in the middle episodes of S1

Quote:
The season/series premiere of Spartacus: Vengeance drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating and 1.391 million viewers in its initial airing on Friday. Compare that to the January, 2011 premiere of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena which drew a 0.5 adults 18-49 rating and 1.097 million viewers.

Second highest numbers in viewers ever. Behind Spartacus: Gods of the Arena's finale (1.72m) and slightly in front of the second to last episode of the same series (1.38m). But comparing to the season premieres this is by far the highest rated one. Bodes well for the rest of the season. This show usually builds audience throughout.

Amazing season finale. But overall I think it was the weakest season yet. I still haven't grown fond of Liam. He lacks the screen presence.

Yeah, he didn't quite work for me either.

But, this season had Craig Parker's amazing penis and a new gay romance! :wub2:

Just watched the season finale.

THEY KILLED OFF ALL MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS.

Spoiler: show
While the scenes between them were insane in this episode (loved the "Let's see it unwrapped" line) I'm going to miss Lucretia and Illythia so much. They were a huge reason I stuck with the show. But their sendoffs were both great.
