Best and Worst of the Week, according to the almighty PTC!
I recently found the official Parents Television Council (aka those awesome people that want to tell us what we can and can't watch) website, thanks to the link that directed me to a Worst of the Week article on "American Dad", and I have been thoroughly amused by some of their past choices. Take a looksie! Warning, I go off on quite a tirade concerning this site, so if you don't want all the commentary, just check out the hilarious site, full of the PTC's perception of good and pure, as well as vile and disgusting. http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/publications/bw/welcome.asp
{Family Guy, episode "North by North Quahog", from May 1st 2005}
Here's one of their least favorite moments, which I find utterly hilarious as they describe it!
"One of the most outrageously offensive scenes includes a parody of the classic children’s tale of Pinocchio in which Geppetto bends over with his buttocks in front of Pinocchio’s nose, then tries to get Pinocchio to lie, so that his nose will grow and, viewers are led to conclude, penetrate his anus."
And, let's not forget that they just aren't happy about FOX's decision about this animated series:
"There is nothing redeeming about this series, yet Fox has decided to inflict it once again on television audiences. Parents should be aware that even though it is animated and has “Family†in the title, this series is absolutely not safe for child consumption."
Aside from the millions of fans who demanded that the show return, I guess FOX's ability to grant everyone's wish by resurrecting a series is "inflicting" far too much pain on everyone else. And luckily, they're able to derive that just because "Family" appears in the title, it ain't safe for children to "consume" this show. I guess there isn't any "sex" in "Sex and the City" either?
Here's a little bit about CSI's April 28th episode, entitled "Commited":
"Kicking off the May sweeps on April 28, 2005 with the episode entitled "Committed," C.S.I. delivered a disgusting and depraved hour of incest, murder and even cannibalism."
Better shield everyone from stuff that happens in the real world! It still shocks me that they find it inexcusable that anyone would want to watch a FICTICIOUS show that contains murder in it, but they never mention how there's REAL murder reported on the news all the time. And war. And death. And tragedy.
{Behind the Scenes: The Unauthorized Story of Mork and Mindy}
"One of NBC’s latest ventures is a series of made-for-TV movies that sensationalize the making of old television series. On Monday, April 4, 2005, NBC aired the latest in their Behind the Camera series with a frank look at the production of the late ‘70s sitcom Mork and Mindy."
Dear God! Not a FRANK look!!!
"Young viewers are likely to take away from this movie the idea that if you are sufficiently talented or well-known, you don’t have to behave with respect toward others and professionalism toward your job."
Yep, kids are stupid and impressionable like that.
"The behavior is glamorized to an extent, and this movie was a wrong turn by NBC and a bad joke on any family who might have watched it looking for a taste of ‘70s television nostalgia."
Gosh dang it! I thought this was "The Nostalgic Look at Mork and Mindy". Damn you NBC, you foiled me again with your sex and your drugs!
-----
Now, don't you think that I forgot about Best of the Week! First entry into the best of the week that I'll look at is Dancing With the Stars!
"The show’s combination of entertainment value and inoffensive content has made it a smashing ratings success and earned it a place as the PTC’s Best of the Week."
I guess the fact that Kelly Monaco's dresses continued to get smaller as weeks progressed was no reason to say it was offensive, let alone disqualify it as "best of the week".
"The way in which the judges evaluate the dancers is also a welcome respite from what has become the stereotypical and critical Simon Cowell method in which judges are expected to verbally attack contestants."
I actually thought Carrie-Anne Inaba was a bigger bitch at times than Simon, but that's okay! The celebrities don't want their feelings hurt anyway.
I won't even get in to their bias-filled "Best of the Week" review for Everybody Loves Raymond". Going by their rules, that show is far from the most inoffensive comedy on television, but obviously if they love the show, they can't give it bad reviews! Hypocrites.
On "American Idol":
"It’s nice to know that America still cares about and supports wholesome programming like this."
Now, you must have read their comment on Simon Cowell a few posts back. They don't care for his insults, but the show is still inoffensive, and was the best show of the week back in March? Again, hypocrites.
On "Wife Swap":
"Wife Swap did include one instance of bleeped swearing which occurred when Laura Beth reflected on the new house rules. Due to this and the late airing of the show, Wife Swap might not be appropriate for younger family members."
This deserves a "Holy shit!". Isn't the Parents Television Council meant for... PROTECTING KIDS FROM INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT?! It's supposed to look out for the families of the world, not just the adults! ](*,)
I apologize for this, but I wanted to waste some time on that. Most of the stuff is hilarious. You can't help but laugh at the idiocy of the PTC, and all that hypocrity. Like I said, check the site out for some real laughs. If you laughed at my commentary, that's okay, and if not, that's okay too. This was solely meant to bring the site up for a laugh, but I got a little bit carried away. Don't mind me!

The fact that they named "A Clay Aiken Christmas" the best show of the week back in December only further proves that this site is absolutely hilarious.
I also love the cartoon on this: http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/publications/bw/2004/1108worst.asp
I also love that someone actually worked on that cartoon to prove a point.

What a great, hilarious site! Isn't the PTC the one that complained the most about the Super Bowl thing?
Hmm... and didn't Wife Swap had a lesbian couple at one point? Heh.
I read their archived lists of "best" and "worst" of each year. Pure gold.

The FCC was the big kahunas that made a big fuss over the Super Bowl, but I'm positive the PTC was on the FCC's side.
Here's another quote from a worst of the week on CSI from October:
"The crimes of passion on the October 28 C.S.I. involved sexual misconduct and crimes of statutory rape and forced prostitution. The crimes against decency by the show’s depictions, descriptions, and themes will continue week after week."
I love how they make it sound like CSI promotes all this stuff as good.

Jesus.......
What they don't get is that CSI solves these kinds of cases, not, as you say, "promotes." What a bunch of loonies.

I especially adore that they loved "Listen Up" for being "a more realistic portrayal of responsible parent-child relationships". Then, they go and bash "life as we know it" for portraying teenagers as horny. Well, I think "life as we know it" depicts teens a lot better than "Listen Up" depicted "parent-child relationships". Someone NEEDS to welcome these people to the real world.
On the topic of "North Shore", the short-lived drama from FOX in late 2004: "...and teen viewers might be drawn in by the attractive cast and island setting and be influenced by the deviant sexual practices and glamorizing of promiscuity."
Isn't that what FOX was hoping for?

My God, anyone who considers 7th Heaven as good, quality programming needs to get shot. That god-awful show is a misrepresentation of Christians all over the world.
Yeah, you know, it's okay for kids to watch the teen stars of 7th Heaven all live under one roof and start sleeping around. It's okay because they have a moral after the hour. It's okay for one of the pastor characters to sleep with one of the people in his congregation because you know, it's 7th Heaven, they deal with their problems in like, an hour.

They continually bashed Boston Public also, which I find odd. WHile I do admit that the show is waay exaggerated and melodramatic, it's no different than 7th Heaven. Only the backgrounds changed. Public school vs. Christian family.

Well, if you're going to start looking for views that aren't hypocritical, you might as well stop reading the site altogether. It just baffles me that there are actually people in this world who would use this site as a guide to watching television.

Exactly. But I do read it for my regular head-shaking and "What are they up to now?" update.
Apparently, people do use this site. The United States did state moral values as a factor in voting for Bush again.

Holy crap, Brent Bozell is a huge idiot. Did you read his column? It's even worse! He actually tells the audience how bad "Sin City" is. It's R-rated, for God's sake! He acts as though this is G-rated, and subtly hides all the sex and violence! What an idiot. I think they should steer clear of movies, seeing as how it's the Parents TELEVISION Council.

I'm at the point where I can't even read the site anymore, it pisses me off so much. And I know what some are thinking: "Ah, just let it go! It's not like they're forcing you to read the site!" No, but they're trying to tell me what I can and can't watch. It's fucking dangerous as hell that we have war, murders, rapes, and tragedies all over the world, with no end in sight, but I think it's far worse that we have idiots trying to tell us what we can and cannot watch on television. There are bigger issues, morons.

Ugh, I hate them.
But on the topic of WIFE SWAP, I only watched one episode of it and that was the one with the lesbian couple. That was a great episode! I even taped it and had my mother watch it and so I saw it again. If it airs again I recommend checking it out. I wouldn't watch any of the other episodes, but this one was surprisingly excellent.
Anyway, they aren't saying they recommend every episode of the show, just this week's episode. I'm sure they would not recommend the one with the lesbian couple. That would be one of their "worst of the week" picks.
