I've never seen the show. I'm not sure how many people have either since it didn't last very long, but I know it has one hell of a cult following. When this first aired, I vaguely remember it being on, but I never checked it out. Then the show drifted off onto obscurity island. Now, all these years later, thanks to the Apatow and Rogen films, I rediscovered that this show existed and checked to see if it was on DVD or not and found out that surely it was, but for $54-$59 bucks, which for me at the moment is a little steep.

So my question is this. Is the show worth watching and possibly blind buying? I have a birthday coming up, so I was thinking about getting it then, but I know next to nothing about the show. Was the show any good, or was there a reason why it was cancelled despite coming from Apatow?

Most people I know absolutely love Freaks and Geeks. I'm sort of lukewarm about it. It's not a bad show, that's for sure, but I can definitely see why it didn't have much appeal. My suggestion would be to get it from Netflix first before spending the money.

I also missed the original airing, but I did end up renting it and was really glad I did.

This show imho was amazingly well written, well acted, funny, and touching.

I don't know if you should purchase it, because I am not sure if you would want to watch it over and over, but it is definitely worth a rental.

If anything you should watch this and Undeclared (which was good but doesn't compare to F&G) just so you can get an appreciation of how Apatow and crew have continued to work together over the years.
