Post Jay reviews every episode of THE OFFICE
As you could probably tell I think The Office is the greatest TV show on TV right now and probably one of the best shows ever created. Now I feel it is my duty that everyone should know my opinion on why I think this show is so great. I also know everyone holds my opinion in such high regard that it may sway some of you. Plus I was really bored at work and figured why the fuck not. So lets begin.

Season 1 Episode 1 - The Pilot

The Pilot was a solid start off for the series, it really did well introducing the characters. We learned pretty quickly through the personal interviews who each character was. Michael is the self-absorbed moron. He thinks everyone likes him but doesn't realize nobody does. Dwight is the loser that everyone knows in real life and plays the villain perfectly. Jim is the guy everyone likes and could be so much more if he actually applied himself, and Pam is the sweet receptionist who seems to accept that this is her life. Ryan is also introduced as a temp worker but really doesn't have much to do. We're also introduced to the supporting cast but they don't see much screen time.

There are a few major themes introduced in this episode that play huge parts in the later episodes. These include the potential downsizing, Jim's pranks on Dwight, Michael's awful group meeting, and Jim's obvious crush on Pam. I've seen the British series and was surprised just how similar the episodes were. However, there were some different things.

Some of the jokes in the episodes were hit or miss. Some of the jokes that fell flat were Michael's impressions when we first meet Ryan, the group meeting about downsizing, and the couple scenes with the supporting characters since none of them were really given personalities. The good jokes did outweigh the bad jokes though. Jim discussing what he does was hilarious, Jim and Pam talking about Angela's cat party in the beginning was bizarre, Michael's awkward pause trying to think of a joke, Michael trying to punk Pam, and of course the stapler in Jello. The chemistry between Jim and Pam is noticeable immediately and when you find out she's engaged you do feel for Jim.

John Krasinski does a great job showing his emotion when he talks about her wedding and when he skips drinks with everyone to walk her to her car, it's easy to feel for the guy. Steve Carrell plays Michael Scott perfectly. Even when you want to hate him you realize h's just trying to do his best but he just seems over his head. Rainn Wilson plays Dwight great. It's obvious that we are supposed to hate him but he's such a moron it's impossible not to love him. Jenna Fischer seems like she had a great time playing Pam and really threw herself into the character. B.J. Novak shows his lack of experience acting but wasn't asked to do a whole lot. Overall the episode was a solid start to the series and really alid the groundwork for future episodes.

Episode Grade - 8.5
Season Grade - 8.5
Series Grade - 8.5

What on Earth is a hair-chubby chaser?

Anyways, those two are my favourite characters. I love Pam.

Dude. As much as I love the Office, the first season just wasn't that great, particularly if you watch it without having seen anything from season two. You need to an objective view if you plan to review all the episodes.

Technically, he is disgusting. I can't even make a pretend gay comment about him. No man, woman or animal should find him attractive in any way.

Although apparently being large and hairy can cause your junk to adopt a blurrily festive red and green hue.

I highly doubt that Jayhawk will come into a thread with a picture of a large hairy naked man, no matter how much he wants to.

Sorry boys my internet has been fuckin up so i havnt had time to update. Here are my thoughts on episode 2

Season 1 Episode 2 - Diversity Day

Diversity Day was a great idea but unfortunately it didn't rise above the first episode. Unlike last episode where the group meeting did not work, the two group meetings here were the highlight of the episode. The first group meeting introduced an African-American diversity speaker named Mr. Brown. Creative naming I know. Michael doing the same thing as Dwight did in the first episode and made fun of him was funny and really showed how similar the two characters really are. Rainn Wilson really steals the scenes he's in. He really doesn't say a whole lot but the few lines of him asking to steer away from gays and his explanation of what a hero is with the ultra serious final life of "We all have a superhero in us" is spot on and made me lose it. The second group meeting with everyone being a different race and Michael asking Oscar if the term Mexican is offensive is funny and calling colivgreens coloredgreens just show how off-base Michael really is. The opening scene with Jim & Dwight banter is funny and Jim talking about himself getting cocky is funny but depressing at the same time. Jim may seem like he hates his job but he really does enjoy it.

There were some parts that did not work for me like Michael stereotyping Kelly, mostly because we do not care enough about Kelly. She wasn't in the pilot and it felt like she was just thrown in that scene just so they could have that scene. I felt it was sloppy. Jim losing the sale to Dwight also did not make sense because Dwight was following Michael around the whole time. When did Dwight have time to make the sale? I understand it was to show that Jim did not care about it after Pam fell asleep on his shoulder and he said "Not a Bad Day," but still, sloppy again. My final problem was the lack of interaction between Jim & Pam. Other than the final scene Jim & Pam weren't on screen together mcuh, that bummed me out. Still overall, funny episode but not as good as the first.

Episode Grade - 8.3
Season Grade - 8.4
Series Grade - 8.4

WTF you rated it lower than the pilot? Stanley having the "black" card alone made it better than the pilot.

HAHA I love that part. Probably the worst idea ever to get over racism.

Diversity Day is still, by far, my favorite episode.
