It's really weird that they would renew Friday Night Lights just to stick it in a place where it will never be able to grow. But I guess they are finally going with the Friday Night Lights should actually be on Friday nights theory.

Mondays- Thank god Heroes stays put. That rumor of a move to Thursday nights was almost certain death for it. Journeyman sounds like more of a compatible fit with Heroes, much moreso than Studio 60 or Black Donnellys. But it still sounds kinda lame.

Tuesday- I doubt Chuck has a chance in hell, with The Biggest Loser as a lead-in. I certainly wouldn't expect more than a few weeks on the air.

Wednesday- Two new shows on the same night, leading into each other? That never works. Ever. Bionic Woman may attract some interest, but Life sounds like another in the long line of detective shows. Even though it sucked in the ratings, Raines should have been given a second chance instead of Life. It may be another detective show, but it's got Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum wins over all.

Thursday- Glad they didn't tinker with the night. I don't know if The Office will benefit much from tentpoling the night at 9pm. It does okay out of Earl, but it may fall apart on its own, between 30 Rock and Scrubs.

Friday- FNL has no chance in hell.

Sunday (midseason)- Reject night? Looks like the last seasons for Law & Order and Medium. Let's hope Kim Raver will last long enough on 24 to go back for the second-half of Season 7.

Well, the press release said that they'll have 25 episodes, which includes 5 hour-long episodes. Hence, 30 half-hours.

Heroes is also expanding to 30 episodes. That would curb the "Too many repeats" complaint that hurt Lost in season 2, but could easily enforce the stalling problems. It shall be interesting to watch.

When a number includes another number, that means just 25, not 30.

So, there's going to be 30 half hours of the Office, but 5 nights will have an hour, or two episodes. 25 nights of new Office but 30 episodes worth.


Also, that's really fantastic. The only two network shows I watch (The Office and CSI) are of course on at the exact same time. Yay.

This overkill for The Office and Heroes worries me.

And isn't the "Heroes: Origins" spin-off HUGE news? Did this come up before? I never heard anything about a spin-off before, even if it sounds like it'll be limited.

Well, S3 of the Office is going to end up being 25 half hours of episodes, so 5 more eps doesn't worry me. I've got faith in the Office's creative team to find 5 more eps worth of stuff.

If anything, it's kind of like having a few bonus episodes that could maybe branch into different possibilities, and test some new ground.

I think that shows on the movie channels with the limited number of eps have the advantage of not having any filler, every episode has to count because they don't have that many, but the advantage of having so many episodes is the chance to experiment with the fluff and try new things.

Either way, more Office!

It is a fairly crappy lineup, at least in terms of new shows. A guy travels through time to help people? Woo. A computer geek becomes a spy? Ohboy. A remake of Bionic Woman. Yay.

The Origins would work better if it was a miniseries/limited series or something of that sort.

Michael Ausiello said that NBC isn't clear on whether or not Heroes: Origins is online-only. He thinks it will be, and I agree. NBC did the same thing with The Office last summer, with a new "webisode" each week. I think they purposely made it unclear, to build a little buzz around their schedule. There's no way they would ruin Heroes with some 8-episode series, where we vote on who gets added to the cast next season on TV. Definitely has to be NBC.com only. I don't think the writers could keep up interest in eight television episodes involving new characters that we vote on.

I dunno, I kinda respect them for their current "quality television" mandate. It seems like they genuinely believe that if they build it, people will come. Sure they've cancelled the odd good show, but none that were especially brilliant. That they're giving 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights another chance despite having low ratings shows that they have a genuine respect for some of their shows, and a belief that audiences will eventually have the same.
