FOX repeats did really, really well. I'm assuming it did well with Men 18-34, the demo that the Oscars keep on courting.

Poor Amazing Race got hit.

So it beat last year by about a million that isn't bad.

Well, it was live, so it could go up or down by a lot in the finals.

From zap2it:

-red-carpet special: 19.7/29

-24.0/34 at 8 p.m.

-24.6/35 at 9 pm

-22.1/35 at 10 pm

They really needed to throw in something big from 9-10 pm. Every big thing felt rushed right at the end (at 11:30 or 45), and even throwing in something else other than one supporting would have helped...

I'm quite disappointed actually.

I really thought it would outdo last year by a large margin. The ads everywhere were great, Ellen was hosting, considerably more mainstream and accessible fare than last years' Best Pic nominees. I'm a bit confused.

Really - by a lot? Has that every meant anything in previous years? When do we get finals?

Peace,
Mike.

It's on a downward longterm trend.

You answered your own question right there. :D (I mean, doesn't anyone remember when she hosted the Emmys? It was horrible horrible stuff. So I made sure not to even TiVo the Oscars.)

Anything that is aired live gets very inexact fast national ratings. I'm not sure of the reason, but it can be off by a couple million in either direction. The finals may have been posted on PIFeedback, since they are available to Nielsen customers by afternoon, usually, but they will definitely be available to everyone by Tuesday, when abcmedianet.com posts them.

That drop doesn't surprise me. Actually, I'm somewhat surprised that many people held on. The first three hours were incredibly uninteresting for me. I just can't imagine what it was like for someone who only had just a passing interest in the show.

Well I thought she was absolutely hilarious and the best Oscar host I've seen. Oscar hosts usually always disappoint, but not this time. She was great.

I agree. I hope she hosts again.
