What is Idol's biggest audience ever? And how do we kill the beast?

Are there going to be any viewers left to watch VM next week?

And what accounts for the 6M viewer increase from 8:00 - 8:30?

I think some thought that the first bit of the show was only a warm-up, and they had lots of time to start watching (evidently, a lot of people thought that, seeing as how it jumped nearly 11 million viewers from 8 to 9:30.

To the first question, yes.

To the second, beats the hell out of me.

Next week should definitely be fine. In fact, a huge audience for Idol may even help VM, since the SotU is the lead out. This way there's already some insane number of people at their tvs who probably aren't interested in listening to Bush so they'll change the channel to the only show on network tv that isn't SotU.

Ah yes, I forgot about the SotU.

Bad weather? People were late tuning in.

Overall TV viewership typically increases each hour, I think.

AI is such a monster it's not even funny. I don't know if there's ever been a #1 show that outpaced everything else on primetime by such a large margin.

This is fucking crazy. Insane. American Idol is a freaking unstoppable monster. It's still increasing and this is the 6th season. What else can I say? Unreal.

Peace,
Mike.

Fantastic numbers for American Idol. CBS's line-up held up well against Idol
