There are a lot of small scale shows people want to talk about that can't sustain their own thread so we can do all that here. Tonight for example is the first episode of Life on Mars on bbc america. It looks intriguing, about a cop who goes back in time to 1973. |

I dont have BBC which is too bad, I really want to see that show. Among the good summer shows that are on Deadwood Psych Monk 4400 Reno 911 Blade Others include Eureka Nightmares & Dreamscape |

I think I am watching more in the summer than during the regular season, because I have such lowered expectations of shows, and they're sticking. The list: Deadwood/Entourage/Lucky Louie - the three HBO Sunday shows. The first two are great, but LL is just something to watch. It has yet to rise above mediocrity. Rescue Me - A summer staple. Psych - Love this show. Nightmares and Dreamscapes - I still haven't caught up on last week, though. Big Brother 7 - The original summer staple. America's Got Talent - Passable summer game show, like last year's Dancing With the Stars. The Colbert Report - An all-year staple. I missed the point of this thread. |

I moved and got rid of satellite and don't plan on fixing that until the fall season starts, but, as soon as I clear out space (delete the first season of Weeds) I will be downloading Entourage. I watched the first 2 seasons of 4400, but from what I've seen of this season, it's not worth it anymore. I'll be watching Weeds in August, possibly Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I've been planning on getting Life on Mars for a while. |

Life on Mars was entertaining, and would be an instant moderate hit for any US network that picked it up and adapted it. It is kind of like Monk and Psych, entertaining, offbeat, something different, just don't expect too much, at its heart it's still just another police procedural. |

I saw about 20-30 minutes of it the other day and was really disappointed with how cheapo it looked. But I've never seen the blade movies so take that with a grain of salt. It didn't seem as polished and professional as the old Highlander series used to be, which was the kind of action show I was hoping for when I turned it on. |

Blade is worth watching. It definately reminds me of the Highlander series. At least in a way Blade tries to place factions in the show and having a lady whos turned working on both sides of Blade and thhe vampires. Its quite intriguing.Pretty much theres 4 different factions on the show, the latest one was introduced in the show last week. One of the factions composed of tweakers who get high off vampire ashes and are given strength like them, they kill vampires for their ashes and is lucid to the vampire drug type trade |

This summer the only series that I've been watching religiously is So You Think You Can Dance. It may be a complete knockoff of American Idol but it's a blast to watch and instantly addictive. Besides that, I've basically been catching up on other shows via DVD. I'm almost through with Six Feet Under, and I've been watching The Office, Veronica Mars, Entourage and Nip/Tuck as well. I tried watching Windfall but I lost interest quickly. It wasn't very good. |

The stilt walkers on America's Got Talent are freakish-looking. They scare me. The judges' choice of Rappin' Granny is so politically correct it's sickening. She was awful! |

Lecter if you're looking for a summer series with an element of supernatural or horror, I think you might like to download this. I've been watching it off and on and it's not bad, it has good production values and it's kind of offbeat and weird, in a fun way. |

Hex may be the most oddly structured series in a long time in terms of who is the leading character or not. I wish someone else here watched it so I could ask them what they thought but I can't do that right now without spoiling some plot events. Probably a lot of you would find it at least interesting and worth checking out, whether you like it or not. In the same way Nightmares and Dreamscapes is. |

I just finished the second episode of Life on Mars. This is now the best series this summer as far as I'm concerned. It might not be to everyone's taste, but I liked it. |

Just saw the third episode of Life on Mars. Consistently good, very solid show. It helps if you either like or at least don't mind 70s era rock which is used in many scenes. It's pretty spooky and fun when he gets periodic messages from radios, TVs and such that sound like people at his bedside trying to communicate. The concept is a little reminiscent of the basic setup of the Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever fantasy series, which I didn't read but a friend did and I heard a lot about it. In both cases, someone is in the hospital and having a sort of out of body experience that takes them to another world in which they are needed to help solve things there. By the way about my above saying that Hex was strange and that I wish someone else saw it, what I was referring to was [spoil]The lead character on Hex died about 2/3 the way through the first season and another supporting character became more of the main character after that. Very unusual, since the lead female who died was far more interesting and charismatic. You sometimes see that kind of thing on US shows since they go on for years but this was just 5 or 6 episodes into a British series. Out of around 8 or so total. I have no idea what they were thinking.[/spoil] |
