| Post subject: | One Season Wonders that you miss |
Which shows that lasted anywhere from two weeks to a full season do you miss most, and wish had a chance at a longer life? I realize we have a thread on shows cancelled too soon, but those lists tend to feature shows like Alias (five years), Arrested Development (three years), and Futurama (even though it's been resurrected). I'm talking one season wonders. Two of my favorite one-season wonders: -Stark Raving Mad (1999-2000 comedy starring Tony Shalhoub and Neil Patrick Harris): Before Monk for Shalhoub and How I Met Your Mother for Harris (and long after Wings and Doogie Howser, for that matter), the two starred in this 22-episode sitcom that aired out of compatible Frasier. Shalhoub played a struggling author of horror (Stephen King, if he didn't write seventeen books a year), and Harris played his editor. Joined by Harris's on-screen girlfriend, Dorie Barton, and Shalhoub's friends, Heather Paige Kent and roommate Eddie McClintock, Stark Raving Mad had a ton of potential in early episodes to be a solid sitcom, when traditional "laugh track" sitcoms weren't dead. As the season progressed (and as ratings went down), the quality went down, as I assume NBC wanted major changes to the sometimes dark series. I pray for a DVD release, but I highly doubt it, even though I've seen crazier releases ("God, the Devil and Bob" anyone?). -The Lone Gunmen (2001 spinoff hour-long comedy of The X-Files): Some characters are best left as the sidekicks. The loveable trio that often helped out Fox Mulder on FOX's The X-Files actually were able to hold their own in an hour-long series. Even with two new characters added to the mix to round out the cast, The Lone Gunmen managed to be entertaining, and often hilarious. Sadly, one year after its debut, the characters were killed off on The X-Files, which put to rest any possibilities of a revival. Funny enough, FOX actually hasn't had a scripted series do any better than The Lone Gunmen did on Friday nights since its cancellation. But, even the ratings it had were low enough to warrant a cancellation. Still, I dream of a TV world where The Lone Gunmen are about to enter their 7th season. So, how about you guys? Which little show from long ago or recently do you wish had gone past its debut season? |

I really enjoyed that show that was on CBS a few years ago with the guy from Without a Trace. I think it was called Now & Again? It was only on one season. |

Touching Evil on the USA. Without a doubt, its first and only season was my favorite season of a drama show in the EXISTENCE of drama shows. I was upset that it didn't get another season. Also, Now and Again (not ONCE AND AGAIN) with Eric Close. Was a very good show, that ended horrendously on a cliffhanger. |

Tru Calling. Damn that show was awesome. It had a 2nd season, but like 3 episodes. I still count it as a one season-er. |

Poor Eric Close, hes been in a bunch of good series that gets canned after one season. Yeah Now & Again was a good show, it also had Dennis Haybert in it. Pretty good concept where he plays a 40 year old dead husband trapped in a 26 year olds body |

Wonderfalls, Fox pretty much dumped it but at least they released the whole series on DVD. |

WONDERFALLS MISS MATCH FREAKS & GEEKS TRU CALLING At least VERONICA MARS can't be added to the list. For awhile I was so sure it would be one of the great shows that got cancelled right away because of low ratings, and had it been on FOX it would have been. But thanks to UPN it was given a chance and its audience keeps growing, and it will keep growing each season. The WB should have picked up TRU CALLING as it would have been perfect for them and done great on there, at least for them, since they don't need as huge of ratings as a network like FOX in order to have a hit. |

The thing about Love Monkey is, I liked the three episodes they aired originally, but when the next four or so episodes were aired on whatever network they aired on, I quickly lost interest. |
