Numerous TV series have become movies with varying degrees of success. Movies to TV series haven't done nearly as well though. I've heard that Mr. and Mrs. Smith is going to become an ABC TV series. Now Star Wars and Crash are going to become one and Blade is debuting June 28th. There were also rumors that Legally Blonde was going to become a series as well but it was going to be with the soon-to-be defunct WB so who knows. What films do you think would make good or at least decent TV series spin-offs? My Picks: 1. The Fast and the Furious - Sure, it's more likely to become a direct-to-video series next but a TV series surrounding street racing could definitely work, assuming it's done with more care than the thematically similar "Fastlane" show from a few years ago. 2. X-Men - Sure, it has happened with the animated show but just imagine the possibilities with a live-action one. It won't happen anytime soon though as long as the movies keep doing well. Any comic book movie could work really. 3. The Pink Panther - Again, it was already an animated show but with a recasting of the lead (Martin would never do a TV series) it could work as a TV series. The dumb humor would be far more palatable in 30-minute segments. 4. Silent Hill - As a HBO series this could be really good because it wouldn't have to be edited for TV censors. 5. Cheaper by the Dozen - Another Steve Martin vehicle that has potential as a series. 6. Sin City - Would have to air on HBO or something but a series exploring the various characters could be awesome as it would have more time to tell each story. 7. Yours, Mine, and Ours - If Cheaper doesn't pan out... 8. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Sci-Fi channel or possibly Comedy Central are calling... 9. XXX - Sequel tanked but a spy series could definitely work if done right. Please recast the lead though (they would have to because Ice Cube wouldn't do a TV series). 10. Sky High - I actually expect it to eventually become a Disney Channel series. |

Sky High - I think all the kids in the cast are signed on for a TV series with Disney Channel as part of the contract for the movie. A live action superhero series ala Spider-Man, X-Men, or Batman. |

I think a Sin City TV series is already planned. Interesting thread, though. I'll think of some later. |

The Bourne series could translate to a TV show if they made an attempt to do a quality job of it. |

Sky High is a great choice for a TV series. I'd love to see the Harry Potter books made into a TV series so you could go into the detail the same as the books. |

I could see Syriana or Traffic being turned into a TV series. |

Actually wasn't Traffic originally a miniseries (Traffik)? And then turned into a movie, then again into another miniseries. |

Pirates of the Caribbean could work as an hour-long series, but they'd need to recast just about everyone in the cast and the visual effects quality would probably take a huge hit. Still, I think it could be done. An Incredibles show could be pretty good if they kept Brad Bird attached. I'd like to see a Napoleon Dynamite show, but there's not really much left to do with the "franchise." A Terminator show involving the war in the future could work well. James Bond, Mission Impossible, etc. would be perfect for TV. (well, MI was already a TV show) |
