Post subject: | The KJ Television Awards Discussion Thread |
It's that time again. Starting at (hopefully) the end of May, I'm hoping to start taking nomination ballots for the 2006 Excellence in Television Awards, which is name I've given to the awards. It's the 5th year for the awards (and second on KJ). So, I'm starting this thread a month and a half early, because I'd like to get discussion going on which awards should be continued on the show, and if there are any changes to the categories that you guys and girls want to make. Here is a list of last year's categories: Excellence in an Opening Sequence Excellence in a Single Episode, Comedy Excellence in a Single Episode, Drama Excellence in a Special Episode, Season or Series Finale (Not Premieres or Debut episodes) Excellence in Gameplay, Reality or Game Show Contestant Excellence in History, The Television Hall of Fame Award Excellence in a Talk Show Excellence in a Guest Starring Role, Actor or Actress in a Drama or Comedy Excellence in an Animated Series Excellence in a Reality/Game Show Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actor in a Drama Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actor in a Comedy Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Drama Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Comedy Excellence in a Leading Role, Actor in a Drama Excellence in a Leading Role, Actor in a Comedy Excellence in a Leading Role, Actress in a Drama Excellence in a Leading Role, Actress in a Comedy Excellence in a Comedy Series Excellence in a Drama Series Just a quick note on the Hall of Fame Award. Last year, the nomination process rewarded "Seinfeld" and "Friends", while actual voting honored "Buffy". So, in case I forget that when the nominating begins, those three are not eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, since they're already there. So, for now, I'm just discussing the categories and any changes needed (if any). We'll worry about "For Your Consideration" stuff in three or four weeks time, when it's much closer to the date when nominating begins. IN A NUTSHELL: -Do any categories need to be changed, added, or taken away? -When should nomination ballots be sent in? (ex. May 31st-June 14th) Thanks guys. All your help is muchly appreciated. |

Maybe... Excellence in reality show hosting? Excellence in a television special event? (ie: The Grammies, The Oscars, concerts, ect.) |

You need to add a drama and comedy ensemble categories, most definitely. Also, writing categories would be nice if others agree. Do you want "fun" mtv-style categories too? Like best argument, best romance etc, or just keep it serious emmy-style? |

I think its safe to say 24, Lost, Greys Anatomy and Veronica Mars will win everything. I am very smart. |

ALIAS should get an hall of fame award. Also why don't we have: Best show on CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, WB, UPN and Cable. |

Alias won three out of its 11 nominationslast year, including Best Actress. Don't dismiss these awards so quickly. There were 35 voters last year. About 6 people watch Veronica Mars. I doubt it's going to win everything. If you're going to be negative about it, then I'm going to have to send you off to Goldie-Land, Mr. Negative. Make sure you contribute some "For Your Consideration" stuff in May, whenever I start that thread. I hope we have more nominations, and ultimately, more voters this time around. |

If the general consensus is that we need fun categories, then fine. We'll go with that. But, I would prefer adding categories like Drama and Comedy ensemble than best argument, best kiss, and best villain. Also, I don't want a huge number of categories, or I won't be getting many nomination ballots. 20-25 is the target range. If people want new categories, I'd appreciate it if they listed some current categories they want removed. |

That is, June of 2005 up until May of this year (Or something like that)? |

Since I only watch like 3-4 shows, I'll be relying heavily on FYC ads to sway me, so you guys better work it when we start nominating stuff ![]() |

Ive long thought it is unfair that on the emmys networks have to compete with anything-goes HBO. I don't think anything from HBO won last year, so it seems a little much to separate cable from the regular networks. But, like I said, this is everyone's decision, not just mine. Are there any categories we really want to add or take away? |

Lets see now Im probably going to put Prison Break in around 3 categories for supporting actor, drama, and actor. Jamie Presley definately deserves best supporting actress in a comedy |

Michael, you're still incredibly sexy. Your sexyness is damn near too much to handle! So... are we keeping the categories as is? I've seen a few suggestions, but no one has really seconded any opinions. If there is any major category changes you guys want, let me know. It'd be better if there was more than just one person looking for a certain category to be added. |

Well, seeing the FYC for Bradley Cooper reminded me of Kitchen Confidential. Could there be a category for shows cancelled long before their time? Like after 3 episodes? |
