I'd argue the big winner here is NCIS. AI crushed everybody, yet it barely went down a percent!

I don't understand why FOX doesn't pair Arrested Development with AI to give it that huge lead-in

AI...massive obviously.

Love Monkey didn't do thattt bad. It's better than Still Standing and Yes Dear, which have been running for what 5 seasons? Not much guns for the late timeslot either, so I think it can survive.

South Beach... :hahaha:

And Supernatural offically dipped below OTH for this week. :towel:

They tried once before, and it lost nearly 2/3 of AI's audience. :(

American Idol is actually up from last season's premiere by 8% or so, it just keeps growing year after year.

NCIS held up very well against AI, and ABC needs to do something to stop the bleeding with Commander in Chief, heck Boston Legal is getting better ratings now.

I wouldn't get used to Love Monkey either.

American Idol Explodes Onto the Scene
Source: Variety January 18, 2006

Fox's American Idol kicked off its fifth season with its best-ever premiere numbers Tuesday night, rising nearly 10% ahead of last year's score, reports Variety.

From 8 to 10, "Idol" averaged an incredible 15.2 rating/34 share in adults 18-49 and 35.4 million viewers overall, making it the highest-rated primetime entertainment telecast in the demograph since the finale of Friends on NBC in May 2004. It beat the other five broadcast networks combined by an amazing 26% in adults 18-49 (15.3 vs. 12.1), by 108% in teens (13.7 vs. 6.6) and by 15% in total viewers (35.5 million vs. 31.0 million).

This year's opener came in 9% ahead of last year in 18-49 and 6% better in total viewers, and it's the second highest-rated "Idol" episode to date behind the May 2003 season two finale.

The only other Fox entertainment program to ever rate higher in 18-49 was the season finale of short-lived reality series Joe Millionaire in February 2003.

I'm eagerly awaiting "House"'s new ratings once it returns in February (I think?).

Prediction: It tops 20M viewers first week back, then levels off at 17-19M.

Sweeeet for American Idol. All you people who hate reality TV shows... whatever. American Idol rocks, in my opinion.

Man, look at those ratings! I never expected them to open that high.

PEACE, Mike.

AMAZING for American Idol. I can't believe the show is more popular than ever.

Fox is having a great week, huh? Football, 24, and American Idol have all performed enormously well in the ratings.

Obviously not an intelligent show (like most expect from TV, which is expecting too much), American Idol is a fun way to pass some time for entertainment. I'll be watching again tonight! Luckily, CTV in Canada will be airing Idol AND Lost, so I won't miss either show.
