 The Colbert Report
Anyone watch it?
I thought yesterday's was a bit unfunny and forced. I dunno. Just not great.
Tonight thus far has been hilarious. Much better than last night.
So, I assume this thread isnt just for...yknow. The stuff all up and down the front page. Waddaya think. :O

Since no Canadian station carries it, I had to download it. The first episode was very much just a long, drawn-out Colbert segment from The Daily Show. The only standout part was "Threat Down" (I think that's what it was called), which still was something that you'd normally see on The Daily Show. I know it's basically just his six-minute Daily Show segment drawn out into a half an hour, but I really hope it becomes more than The Daily Show Jr.

I saw part of it, I wasn't impressed. It was alright but nothing special. Colbert is amusing in small doses but I definitely don't want a half hour of him.

I didn't see tonight's episode, but I thought the premiere was fine. I mean, I always thought Steven Colbert was awesome on The Daily Show, but yeah, it all seemed just a bit too drawn out to me. And the only real laughs came at the end with Stone Phillips (though I did like his talking points).
I hope it does well, though. I'll support anything Daily Show related.

I agree completely with what Kypade said.
The first episode (especially the Phillips interview) was a bit of a chore, but last night was 100% hilarious.
They also seem to have decided against Colbert taking on his "O'Reilly' persona for the entire interview segment, which is a great decision, and a huge relief.

So, did anyone else keep watching the show? I've seen every episode from the first week, and am currently watching the first episode from Week 2. Aside from the iffy premiere, I love the show.

So, I had no idea I wasn't the only member of the Colbert Nation here. I've seen every episode since the premiere, through live viewing at 11:30, videotaping, and other means of obtaining the episodes. I'm glad to see that he's only fumbled his lines two or three times in the last month, while he fumbled two or three lines in the first minute of the first show. My favorite is still "The Word".

His obsession with Bears is classic. Im liking it better than the Daily Show right now, which seems to have taken a hit with the loss of Colbert and another writer or two.

Same here. I've always liked Daily Show, but if given the choice, it'd be Colbert. I didn't think he had a strong enough personality to carry his own show four nights a week, but he has really proven himself and then some. I pretty much enjoy all the recurring bits (The Word, Better Know a District, Threat Down). I have very few (if any) bad things to say about the show.

My only negative things about it are
1) Half the time he says something far right wing as a joke I get the sense the audience doesn't realize he's being sarcastic.
2) He seems rude to some of the guests. Some of them, mainly actors and other entertainment people, know it's all in fun but some of the serious authors look surprised and insulted.
3) It's so intense that I don't watch it every night, just a couple times a week.
But as you can see those aren't huge insults of the show, just a few little things.

Yeah, my biggest problem with the show are the interviews. They can be funny, but also awkward. I prefer comfortable interviews!
I would love to see Bill O'Reilly as a guest, though!

You would need an entire show just for Stephen and O'Reilly.
I wish more people were unamused with Stephen bowing to the crowd right before the interview. I only recall Dermot Mulroney looking unamused, but like most people, he smiled and stood up when Stephen finally came over to the table.
I do appreciate the little things that the show does like: when they continued "Better Know a District" as a 434 part series instead of 435; when Stephen brought out the "You're On Notice" board with a few previous "notice-ees" on the board; continuing Stephen's hatred for bears on the "Threat Down"; etc.
