Mr. X Golden Commentary

Best Drama Series

"Commander in Chief"
"Grey's Anatomy"
"Lost"
"Prison Break"
"Rome"

Noticable absence for me would be "24". Surprised not to see "West Wing" or "Six Feet Under", but then again, I'm cool. For some reason, the Globes are anti-final seasons, so "Six Feet Under"'s lack of nods isn't surprising. "Prison Break" is a big surprise for me, I didn't think it would get anything. It seemed a little too outlandish for awards. I can take or leave "Grey's Anatomy". I guess when they close a window (West Wing), a door is open (Commander in Chief).

Best Comedy Series

"Curb Your Enthusiasm"
"Desperate Housewives"
"Entourage"
"Everybody Hates Chris"
"My Name Is Earl"
"Weeds"

Happy for the most part. Noticably absent are "Arrested Development" and "The Office". "Curb" had an off-year, but I'm fine with a nod. The Housewives were great in Season 1, and slowly but surely coming back into the groove in Season 2, so I'm glad for that. Never saw "Entourage". Saw a few episodes of "Chris", and liked it. Figured it would get some attention. Obviously happy for "Earl", and pleasently surprised for the superb "Weeds".

Best Actor - Drama Series

Patrick Dempsey, "Grey's Anatomy"
Matthew Fox, "Lost"
Hugh Laurie, "House"
Wentworth Miller, "Prison Break"
Kiefer Sutherland, "24"

Dempsey. Very happy to see Wentworth and Kiefer on the list. Obvious favorites of mine. I didn't really ever expect Matthew Fox to be nominated, but I always thought he did a fine job on "Lost", in a cast of many standouts (many of which are not on the list, sadly). Hugh Laurie is a no-brainer. Damn fine performance, and the most likely to win, since they missed him last year when the show was on life-support. Good list, and even though I'm no Dempsey fan, I'm glad to see the new blood. No real noticable absences.

Best Actress - Drama Series

Patricia Arquette, "Medium"
Glenn Close, "The Shield"
Geena Davis, "Commander in Chief"
Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"
Polly Walker, "Rome"

YOU DUMB FUCKS! KRISTEN BELL IS BETTER THAN ANY OF THE NOMINEES!!!! Okay... I got that out. Veronica Mars will find its time soon, I just know it. This list pretty much sucks for me. I don't think Patricia Arquette, and I don't think she is award-worthy on "Medium". Sorry, Medium fans! Glenn Close likely will get the award she didn't win at the Emmys, unless they give the damn Patricia another award. Wait... no, Geena Davis will win. Marc Berman said so. Kyra Sedgwick... mmkay. And Polly Walker... all right. I guess I need to start watching half these shows!

Best Actor - Comedy Series

Zach Braff, "Scrubs"
Steve Carell, "The Office"
Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"
Jason Lee, "My Name Is Earl"
Charlie Sheen, "Two and a Half Men"

Seems like they forgot to add Bateman's name. There's no way he wasn't nominated for "Arrested"... Steve Carell and Jason Lee are my obvious favorites. Hope either wins. Nice for Braff, and Sheen puts in an always-funny performance in "Men". And who else can cause mass hysteria like Larry David? No one I tell you, no one! Well... maybe Michael Scott on "The Office" if they let him loose on the public.

Best Actress - Comedy Series

Marcia Cross, "Desperate Housewives"
Teri Hatcher, "Desperate Housewives"
Felicity Huffman, "Desperate Housewives"
Eva Longoria, "Desperate Housewives"
Mary-Louise Parker, "Weeds"

THANK YOU GOD! Eva Longoria got nominated! I hope she wins. Just to piss off Marcia and Hatcher. Glad not to see Jane Kaczmarek or Patricia Heaton. If the last spot went to anyone, I'm glad it's Mary-Louise Parker, an incredible part of "Weeds".

Best Supporting Actor - Series, Miniseries or Movie

Naveen Andrews, "Lost"
Paul Newman, "Empire Falls"
Jeremy Piven, "Entourage"
Randy Quaid, "Elvis"
Donald Sutherland, "Commander in Chief"

Why can't they divide Series and Miniseries? It's stupid to lump them together in the Supporting category, when the other categories aren't lumped together. I'm glad for Donald, even though I don't want the show. He and his son are great in anything, so I'll take it. Not to mention his nomination for Best Actor in a Miniseries! Everyone else... bleh. Noticably absent: Peter Stormare (Abruzzi, "Prison Break"), Terry O'Quinn (Locke, "Lost"), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars, "Veronica Mars"), John Krasinski (Jim, "The Office"), Rainn Wilson (Dwight, "The Office"), John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox, "Scrubs"), Dominic Purcell (Lincoln, "Prison Break"), and would it kill someone to nominate Carlos Bernard for "24"? Just once? If anyone can act like they're on the verge of a breakdown almost as well as Kiefer Sutherland, it's Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida!).

Best Supporting Actress - Series, Miniseries or Movie

Candice Bergen, "Boston Legal"
Camryn Manheim, "Elvis"
Sandra Oh, "Grey's Anatomy"
Elizabeth Perkins, "Weeds"
Joanne Woodward, "Empire Falls"

"Weeds"! More love for "Weeds"! Otherwise... bleh list again. Absent: Emilie de Ravin (Claire, "Lost"), Jenna Fischer (Pam, "The Office"), Jaime Pressly (Joy, "My Name is Earl"), Mary-Lynn Rajskub (Chloe, "24"... I can dream, can't I?).

Overall, a pretty good list. The obvious absences are "24" for drama, "Veronica Mars" for ANYTHING, Jennifer Garner for lead actress, and "Arrested Development" for ANYTHING. This pretty much kills any chance of FOX reconsidering about "Arrested", now that it's been shut out at the Globes.

Ugh, nothing for the two best shows on TV: GILMORE GIRLS and VERONICA MARS :nonono:. Bastards! Their TV noms suck!

That's actually a pretty crappy list ;)
Actually VERY crappy :|

Were they always this bad?

Nothing for Arrested Development
Jennifer Garner and Alias in general had an off-yea which is forgiveable....
No Rescue Me!!! I know that may not seem like a big deal, but considering Nip/Tuck WON last year, I'd think they'd at least nominate this amazing drama in the place of its lackluster 3rd season (which didn't get nominated either)

I'm happy to see Grey's Anatomy there.

I can't stand Naveen Andrews getting nominated anymore. He didn't even have an episode in the past 16 episodes!!!
Where the hell s Terry O'Quin??

For the wins....
Drama: Lost (unless Grey's Anatomy gains steam)
Comedy: We can still trust them and ay Housewives

I actually like the nominees. Especially how Prison Break garnered two nominees. I hope it wins because it deserves to. Miller won't win Best Actor but at least Hugh Laurie will win instead. I'm glad Veronica Mars didn't get a nominee. Now at least I won't have to hear about it come awards time. It seems awfully overhyped for a show on the worst network on television. Surprised to see Zach Braff nominated when his show hasn't even aired yet this season.

No supporting actor/actress categories for comedy series?

It is a pretty good set of nominees though I think this silliness of putting DH in the comedy category for awards shows has to end. It's a soap with some comedic elements, not a comedy.

Television Series - Drama
Commander-In-Chief
Grey's Anatomy
Lost
Prison Break
Rome

Veronica Mars is in a category of its own. The same one where Buffy is. And that's the one named ''Be the best show on television but don't you ever get nominated''. And I hate that category. But still I'd take it any time if that means VM will stay the best show on television.
Anyway, beside Veronica Mars, I'm suprised not to see 24 here. Although I think season 4 wasn't as good as previous ones, the show was still better than Prison Break (which is a good and entertaining show, but I don't think it's really an awards material, but still it's better to see PB here than The West Wing). I haven't seen Commander-In-Chief and Grey's Anatomy (although the latter one should start soon in my country), so I really can't comment on those, but I hear they're pretty good shows, so I guess I'm glad to see them nominated, again it's better to see some new faces than old tired shows. But Lost is a shoe-in for the award. Season one was awesome, and season two looks just as awesome as the first one.

Television Series - Musical Or Comedy
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Desperate Housewives
Entourage
Everybody Hates Chris
My Name Is Earl
Weeds

The best surprise this year at GG is Weeds. I love the show, but I didn't think it would be nominated. But now I hope Showtime will renew it for season 2. Other than that the list is quite passable. Maybe it throw something else (Scrubs or The Arrested Development) instead of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Actually I'd definitly rather see Scrubs or AD instead of CYE. Maybe even Scrubs winning.

Actor In A Leading Role - Drama Series
Patrick Dempsey in Grey's Anatomy
Matthew Fox in Lost
Hugh Laurie in House, M. D.
Wentworth Miller in Prison Break
Kiefer Sutherland in 24

The award should go to Kiefer or Fox. Good to see Miller here. Seems like the love for PB is really big.

Actor In A Leading Role - Musical Or Comedy Series
Zach Braff in Scrubs
Steve Carrell in The Office
Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm
Jason Lee in My Name Is Earl
Charlie Sheen in Two And A Half Men

Two and a Half Men is so unfunny. The acting in the show is just OK, so Charlie Sheen is the only stinker in here. Larry David isn't a stinker, but it's not far from that. I just don't like CYE.

Actress In A Leading Role - Drama Series
Patricia Arquette in Medium
Glenn Close in The Shield
Geena Davis in Commander-In-Chief
Kyra Sedgwick in The Closer
Polly Walker in Rome

Great for Patricia. I like Medium a lot, and I think you're all being very unfair to Patricia. Maybe she isn't THE best, but I think she is damn close to that. Good to see some love for the Fox-axed The Closer.

Actress In A Leading Role - Musical Or Comedy Series
Marcia Cross in Desperate Housewives
Teri Hatcher in Desperate Housewives
Felicity Huffman in Desperate Housewives
Eva Longoria in Desperate Housewives
Mary-Louise Parker in Weeds

Go Mary, go Mary, go Mary... If it has to be a Desperate Housewife I hope it's Marcia Cross.

God why oh why??? Can anyone, anyone explain me why they nominate Matthew Fox and Naveen Andrews over Terry O'Quinn and (to a lesser degree) over Josh Holloway? Seriously, I like Sayid, but why is the actor getting more acclaim than Locke's? That's beyond me.

Lost should be a lock for the Best Drama Series win, though. Thankfully.

I do think Grey's Anatomy has an easy win, though. The Globes like going for the new, fresh stuff, and although Lost might be a competitor, Anatomy is newer and fresher, especially since it's turned into a surprise hit.

I now officially have it out for Housewives, though.

I hope they lose.

I was watching it this morning. I'm still wondering why Marky Mark would have his cell phone on him when he really didn't have anywhere more important to be.

Best Actress - Comedy Series

Marcia Cross, "Desperate Housewives"
Teri Hatcher, "Desperate Housewives"
Felicity Huffman, "Desperate Housewives"
Eva Longoria, "Desperate Housewives"
Mary-Louise Parker, "Weeds"

Something tells me that Mary-Louise Parker won't win.

Boo for not showering Boston Legal with nominations.

They are combined with drama and miniseries.

And what a crappy list of nominees. Good for Mary-Louise Parker, Steve Carell, Jason Lee, and Lost, but the rest of the noms are a joke.

I don't have any problem with the noms, aside from some obvious absences that I mentioned. I mean, people complained when "Raymond", "West Wing", "Six Feet Under", and others were nominated year-after-year, so this year the nominees are all fairly new and fresh, and people still aren't happy. No one's ever pleased.

Everybody Loves Raymond was never a Globe favorite. In its 9-year run, it received only two nods and those were both for Ray Romano.

any nomination list that doesnt include Arrested Development is faulty. My Name is Earl and Everybody Hates Chris may be entertaining, but they are in no way the "best" of the bunch. CYE, Entourage, and Weeds are great and should be nominated. Desperate Housewives is "meh". How in the hell that Arrested Development can be left out entirely is amazing, while Earl and Chris get in there. the only reason that i really care about this is that i dont understand how the emmys and GGs went from loving Arrested Development to giving it like 2 or 0 noms, how does that work exactly? Its not like the show declined in quality and everyone is waiting for it to be put out of its misery, everyone (who has the brains to watch) still loves it.
Prison Break? it would be laughable that it got a nom for Best Drama if it werent so disgusting.
Why is Terry O'Quinn continually ignored? have the people who are voting even SEEN any Lost, or they just want to appear "cool" so they nominate it. Matthew Fox? Sorry, but no one is ever blown away by his scenes or his acting, he isnt bad, but there are quite a few others who do a much better job.

i am pleased to say that i havent watched an awards show in years (as they are all biased in their own ways) and i wont be starting to any time soon. One excuse for why the emmys never include any "younger" shows that i find amusing is the one about how "well all the voters are older and dont watch the young-people stuff". i find that one amusing because if they arent watching a good deal of shows just cause they are geared toward the "younger" crowd then how are they equipped at all to accurately judge how good they are? I could go on and on about this, but for everyones sake i will just stop now.

Because im pretty sure that the episode "Tuesday" fell under this voting year.

And incase anyone hadn't noticed, that episode possibly featured the best acting in any tv show ever.
