More on the pick-up from Zap2it.com:
UPN Wants More 'Mars' (Monday, April 11 08:25 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) UPN's "Veronica Mars" is the second lowest rated scripted drama to air on any network this season (Sorry, "The Mountain"). But every once in a while, a network decides that there are things more important than ratings. UPN is bringing "Veronica Mars" back for a second season.
"With its terrific ensemble cast, sharp writing and high production values, we're tremendously proud of the level of quality that 'Veronica Mars' brings to UPN," says UPN Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff. "Headlined by the brilliant Kristen Bell, this intriguing, youthful series continues to garner tremendous buzz and critical acclaim, and this is the type of smart, compelling show we want viewers to expect from UPN."
The news of the "Mars" renewal spread through the Internet over the weekend with many fan sites celebrating the decision as if their site in particular forced UPN's hand. Several of them may have had a point, given that despite critical adulation and low-level cult buzz, the show's audience has remained almost entirely low and stable since its premiere. "Mars" stars Bell as a teenage girl who has to balance high school, moonlighting as a private eye and a variety of mysteries and tragedies from her past. Creator Rob Thomas ("Cupid") has promised that many of the show's central puzzles will be wrapped up by its first season finale.
Back in late September, "Veronica Mars" premiered to an audience of just under 2.21 million viewers. The show's most recent episodes have been in line with its season average of 2.4 million, with only minimal signs of growth. Airing on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. -- one of television's most competitive time slots, particularly now that "American Idol" has transformed "House" into a hit -- "Veronica Mars" has only rarely risen above sixth place for the hour.
In the absence of any breakout hits this year, though, UPN seems willing to take a chance on one of the most original and praised shows the network has ever produced. The jury is still out on "Kevin Hill," which launched with "Mars" this fall and has also failed to find a substantial audience despite warm reviews. The industry trade papers speculate that the fate of "Hill" will be tied to the netlet's development season.

I'm thrilled with this news.
That was another great episode, one of the best. I was expecting that kiss to eventually happen with the way they were acting towards each other recently, although not this soon. That cracked me up.

This week's VERONICA MARS has to have been the best episode yet! But they're all great. I just LOVE this show! I am now raising my rating of it to a perfect 10/10 (A+)! I am so glad UPN is giving it a second season. Now I am dying for the first to be released on DVD because I will be getting it right away.
Anyway, the kiss between Veronica and ___________ on this week's episode was actually pretty cool. It was exciting! Yet I think the deputy she's been dating is so damn sexy and adorable! I love his facial expressions and the sexy way he talks. He's such a hottie! I really don't want her and him to split up. I also didn't want him to leave the show but he'll be on a new show next fall which means he likely won't be back on this one for season 2. That's a shame.
I'm looking forward to more Alyson Hannigan on next week's episode.
EVERYONE that has been missing this show better be checking it out this summer or at least when the DVD is released (as long as it gets released before the second season of the show) because you don't know what you're missing!

I know they will but as of yet it hasn't been officially announced. I'm personally hoping it is out this summer but at the latest it should be out sometime in the fall. They would be smart to get it out A.S.A.P. before the second season starts.

Last night's episode was GREAT! I loved it! Man do I heart this show! I loved how it had the song "Crimson & Clover" by Tommy James & The Shondells (which was in the movie MONSTER and was also on an episode of THE L WORD) featured in it. Next week's episode will be another great one! We'll finally found out who date raped Veronica at that party.

I'm so happy, I could hug the whole world. Veronica Mars is sold to a german tv station. The series will start in 2006, which is far too long away, but I never expected any station would buy it. Hooray!

Too funny: The station that bought it, claims that Veronica Mars is "one of the most successful new series in the USA".

Maybe they mean review wise or something. Since it is a critical darling and has a big cult following.

Just found on tvshowsondvd.com:
Late in March the Veronica Mars fans were a bit disappointed after a live online chat Warner Home Video had with the members of the Home Theater Forum. As we reported just weeks ago, Warner told the folks at the chat (myself and Gord included) that there were no DVD plans yet for this show.
Now there's different news, courtesy of Rob Thomas, the creator of Veronica Mars. At his production company's official website, in the Frequently Asked Questions area that you can find under the Veronica Mars section (sorry, direct link isn't possible because this site is run by Flash Player 7), comes this quote:
Will there be a Veronica Mars Season 1 DVD.
Yes. But we've been given a tough choice regarding how the DVD is released. Warner Home Video has told us that we can only get the DVD out in September if we don't include any extras. They have to start pressing them right now. I would love to do extras for the package, but our team thinks it's too important to get the DVD out before we begin season 2 to wait.
So it looks like fan input combined with show popularity has caused Warner to quickly put things in motion for the show, but the result was timing too short to allow bonus features to be included. Rob, we'd like the supplement, too, but it's the episodes we all really want...and we can save the extras for the second season. Bring 'em on! (Quick, before someone changes their mind!) Heh, just kidding...I think. Stay tuned, and we'll keep an eye on this and update you further once news gets around. Beyond this initial news, that is...readers are already telling us that newspapers like the Houston Chronicle are mentioning this in their entertianment or television listings sections. Meanwhile, we owe our thanks to reader Emily Holder for pointing us toward the original mention that it's all based on.

This week's episode of VERONICA MARS was great as usual. MAN DO I LOVE THIS SHOW! I can't stand to think of all of the people that aren't watching it. They are really missing out! This is much better than DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and LOST.
I can't wait until this Tuesday's episode, which will be the season finale. It will obviously kick ass. I hoping that after the finale airs the first season DVD will be announced. It would make sense for them to announce it shortly after the first season is over. I will be pre-ordering that DVD! It is a MUST HAVE!
But I'm disappointed it won't be out until September at the earliest. They really should have started on it earlier. Anyway, like the other hardcore fans, I don't care about the extras on the first season DVD set, just get the show out RIGHT AWAY! I only need the show for now! But the sad thing is that if it doesn't come out until September that won't give enough people time to check it out before the second season starts. Hopefully the second season won't start until a month after it comes out at least. And since the DVD won't be out sooner then they better at least air this show in order this summer!
