Ripper Street (BBC America)
Quote:
BBC America is taking on another scripted series. Following its recent order for 19th century cop drama Copper, the network has announced it's co-producing the new BBC crime series Ripper Street.
Debuting in the fall as a part of the Dramaville programming block, Ripper Street has already started filming in London. The eight-episode run follows the 1889 aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders in London's East End and comes from Waking Dead and Mistresses writer Richard Warlow.
It stars Pride and Prejudice star Matthew Macfadyen, Game of Thrones' Jerome Flynn, Adam Rothenberg, Myanna Buring and David Dawson. It's produced for the BBC by Tiger Aspect Productions, Simon Vaughan at Lookout Point and BBC America and was commissioned by BBC drama head Ben Stephenson and Danny Cohen.
“We’re thrilled that Ripper Street is coming to our channel as part of Dramaville," said BBC America programming SVP Richard De Croce. "To this day, audiences continue to be fascinated by Jack The Ripper and the events in Whitechapel in the late 19th Century. This script and cast are going to take us for a great ride. We’re excited to be involved in such an ambitious production with Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point.”
