I want to purchase Record of Ragnarok, but Viz retails it for $13 here in the U.S. A little steep.

OP will probably drop since silver week helped out backlogs overall but I think 10M is nearly guaranteed anyway, volume 104 will probably add 1.5M+ so the rest of the series only needs to average out like 68k to reach it.

Talk about a week of debuts!

Looks like some nice growth there for Spy x Family #10. One less day of sales compared to #9, yet it sold ~164,000 more.

Quite good for MHA #36 too. Likewise, one day less of sales, yet it outperformed the first week of #35 (~40,000 more).

Not sure what to think of Chainsaw Man #12. Doesn't look bad by any means, but also looks a little subdued? The anime just started though, so should be interesting to watch how it (and the backlog) perform in the coming weeks.

It is pretty underwhelming for CSM, I think everyone just got swept into looking at the anime hype and sort of sidelined the possibility the the long break could have hurt (potentially by quite a bit, as seen here) the series and in hindsight it's not too surprising, even if a bit of a disappointment still.

Yeah. Might not be a good indicator of future potential.

I've seen mentioned on Twitter that Ruri Dragon had the biggest debut for a new series since MHA in 2014. Any truth in this? Might be a tad unfair since it was a 6-day debut, but still impressive either way. Although I also read the future of the manga is in doubt due to the author's health?

I take everything posted on Twitter with a gain of salt, as I swear half the people in the English manga/anime threads just post incorrect data and false "facts" on purpose

It's true for WSJ (excluding sequels, spinoffs and whatnot), otherwise not really, there have been a few better launches since then outside of it, notably Kaiju less than 2 years ago even excluding already successful authors. Though it's hard to evaluate exactly since big launches often go out of stock really quickly (and this absolutely happened with Ruri Dragon too), so this argument can really just bode down to what had more stock sometimes (i.e. Takopi earlier this year could've done much better than its first week number, seeing as its week 4 was its best week of the month!).

Thanks for clarifying up there, JustLurking. Ruri Dragon didn't even make the Top 50 this week due to stock issues, I presume.

Anyone know if the first print copies of the first volume in a popular series that sold out in the first days (week) are sought after by collectors and carry value? This would likely only apply to the first volume (maybe second or third if it hadn't become too popular yet) with low initial print runs.

I do my best to get the first printing of most volumes I buy (another reason I try to buy in bookstores to check), but there are often cases where I get into a series too late to get a first print of the earlier volumes (first, especially).
