 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
The fact that it's still being boosted so much in and of itself despite already having such ridicolously high LTDs is insane enough and proof of its staying power imho. Huge boosts should not be an option anymore (even though I said as much before the movie and was promptly proven wrong, lol), even this much is quite far beyond what I expected from reruns and the movie broadcast. 95% of series can only dream of getting their backlog into top50 at all at any point in their run, so for it to still be doing it at this stage is nothing short of ridicolous. But yeah, it's not enough to come back into #1 contention for the year. Not with this much, anyways. The tv broadcast of MT might help, but it's unlikely to provide enough for it to close the gap with such little time left. I think our top 10 is pretty much set right now, with only a couple of positions being close enough for uncertainty (namely CSM/SxF will be very close for 7th, and kingdom will probably fall from 9th to 10th if it doesnt have a volume release for november - even just one week should be enough to keep it above haikyuu otherwise).

Kinda annoying that Oricon seperates the limited and regular editions. KnY vol.23 could potentially sell over 6 million units overall but that won't be visible.

It's not much of a problem. KnY 23 (LE) sold 626k units in its first two weeks and only +20k in the next 2 weeks combined, knowing it was a preorder only limited edition that didn't and won't be reprinted means the 646k it got on monthly is still pretty damn close to the full number. So just add +646k, basically.

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
It'll still probably get to 6 million eventually (with the LE added). It's at 5,763,901 overall, so 236,099 should be doable eventually. Now, that may take a couple or a few years, but I don't see why it isn't manageable.
Regarding JJK #17 appearing on this week's chart, a day before it was released, I don't actually know if that "counts" as its first week. We like to call it "Week 0" when a retailer breaks the street date, but since it did appear on Oricon (just like many One Piece volumes have in the past, among others), I guess it's technically the first week on Oricon's chart. Good to see Toilet-Bound Hanako still doing well. Season 2 down the road, perhaps?

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
JJK dropped a little compared to last vol prob because of week 0 sales. MHA at second. Tokyo revengers massive drop at third. And KnY at fourth still holdin' on. Less than 100k than last week sales, but still incredible nonetheless.

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
With October 11 and 12th daily Shoseki ranking it seems DS won't exceed 300k with next weekly top 10 by Oricon. So JjK must had +1,7-1,9M then. DS vol 23th looks anormally low in daily ranking so I wonder if there's a stock issue or it's just the fact it sold more than the previous volumes... XD The first spot can still change for the yearly ranking but it looks more like a miracle right now. ^^

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
Adding week 0 to Jujutsu Kaisen's week, I think #17 still dropped a little bit, or at least had a similar first week as #16. But that's still 7-day versus 3-day, so it has slipped a bit. But that's not unusual since the anime has been over for half a year now. Pretty much everything tends to peak around the end of an anime season before dropping off a bit.
I believe One Piece #100 had a bigger first week than JJK #17 (in less days), after JJK #16 beat OP #99 back in June, so I'm curious to see if One Piece goes back to "reclaiming its throne" again in the coming year or two with JJK likely to gradually decline for a bit before stabilizing (and then seeing some upticks when the anime airs again and such).
And Demon Slayer has sold so much, it's hard to imagine it remaining in contention for top spot in the yearly rankings in a year or two. 2022 will probably still be pretty good if season two of the anime can keep its weekly sales around 200,000/300,000 for a few months, though it'll still likely see a pretty massive drop compared to 2021. DS was helped a ton from its sales from December-February/March (when the last volume was released and the series was selling a ton due to it and backlog sales). Anyone know how much the first 2-3 months of 2021 accounted for its total sales of 2021?
And Tokyo Revengers is declining of course now that its anime has wrapped up as well, and the individual volumes weren't able to reach Jujutsu Kaisen level (much less Demon Slayer), so presumably it'll see a huge drop off in 2022.
All three (DS, JJK, and TR) are likely to see huge drops, probably 50% or more, in 2022.
I guess the question becomes if any other newer series in 2022 (Chainsaw Man, perhaps, if the anime delivers?) will be able to see the same sort of success that DS, JJK, and TR all had back-to-back-to-back. Or if the charts will eventually go back to resemble the pre-2019 era.

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
Chainsaw off course yes... With an anime and/or its "part 2". SPYxFAMILY maybe... depends when its anime comes and if it'll has an impact on its sales since the manga's selling really good with its comic-books only ! But we won't see more than 3-4 volumes releases so it'll hard to exceed 10M with a boost on its backlogs ?

Considering the momentum it currently has, Blue Lock is a prime candidate for a boost in 2022

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
Thanks, Rouk'! I was going to bring up Blue Lock a few weeks back (August/September, I think) when I noticed it ranking well on the weekly sales chart.
With Haikyuu!! over, there's certainly a Shonen sports series slot to fill. And the manga already has over 5 million copies in circulation. Pretty impressive figure for a 3 year old series with no anime (yet). And the reception has been really good. The anime is debuting sometime next year.

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
I nominate Sousou no Frieren once it has an anime. But since it's still new, I don't think it'll have an anime at least until 2023.

I just wanted to see how the dailies looked after the broadcast before ruling it out pretty much 100%, even though like I said, it was unlikely to begin with for it to have enough steam left to take #1 back. And having seen the dailies for this week after the episode, there's basically no way KnY is contesting first anymore imho. JJK has it locked. Corpse wrote: Adding week 0 to Jujutsu Kaisen's week, I think #17 still dropped a little bit, or at least had a similar first week as #16. I disagree that the drop for #17 is slight. Knowing #17's 7days fw+week 0 ends up basically even with #16's 3 days fw means the full month drop could be as big as even 200k, which honestly, is massive. This might seem pessimistic, but honestly, not really. The difference between a 7days fw and a 3days fw is supposed to be really big, even moreso for big releases which are very frontloaded. Just to put it into perspective with numbers: JJK #16's week 2 was 354k. Of this number, realistically speaking, the amount that was sold within the first 4 days of it should be around ~250k. So if you were to align launch dates, that's about the amount you'd see JJK #17 behind. And looking at it falling behind My Blissful Marriage on tuesday for week 2's dailies does indeed suggest that week 2 is going to be nowhere near that of JJK 16. This number was so surprising to me that my first reaction seeing it this morning was that there had been a mistake with the chart! And perhaps something did happen and the volume will bounce back from the weak start, though nothing appears out of order with the other WSJ releases this week, so...if everything plays out the way it's looking, very disappointing drop, and disappointing to see it happen so soon as well, I can't say much else. Corpse wrote: I guess the question becomes if any other newer series in 2022 (Chainsaw Man, perhaps, if the anime delivers?) will be able to see the same sort of success that DS, JJK, and TR all had back-to-back-to-back. Or if the charts will eventually go back to resemble the pre-2019 era. Uh, in terms of series sales? CSM and SxF (I believe a leak had it airing next year, so an announcement should happen at some point unless it was incorrect) could do very well but they don't have much of a chance of putting up 'huge' series numbers even if they do receive a big boost. For one, their volume count is low, and CSM is going to be in a situation where even if it returns early 2021 it probably won't put out more than 2 volumes for the year, and that is provided that they even keep the same volume count for part 2, cause otherwise it will have 0 releases as far as oricon is concerned. SxF has even less volumes than CSM to count for backlog, will only have 2 volume releases next year, and has a very high starting point - which isn't a bad thing, mind you, but it plays against it in terms of achieving 'huge' series numbers on yearly. Still, those 2 are certainly series to 'watch' in terms of huge boosts even if a lot plays against them in terms of getting big series numbers. The other 2 series I'm looking out for the most next year in terms of top10 candidates would be: Blue Lock: Good seller, has a lot of momentum in terms of backlog sales, and has very good timing as the market is currently suffering the loss of haikyuu and has a big hole to fill for a huge spokon. Anime will release with lots of volumes on the market and the series will likely add 4 to 5 new releases next year. Good candidate for a high spot on next year's list. Mystery to iu nakare: Biggest josei out there right now, selling 250k monthly on new releases, lots of momentum with strong backlog sales, will receive a drama next year. Perhaps not a contender for a "top position" on the list, but I think this series has a good shot at making top 10 next year. There's other stuff that might do something, but I'd consider pretty low chance to blow up. Best example of it is probably AoAshi, in a similar position to Blue Lock sales wise but with none of its momentum. It seems likely to air before blue lock though and with the market still lacking that big spokon it could make the difference. Still, the difference in momentum the two series have as the two big spokon adaptations scheduled for next year speaks very clearly about the difference in their chances, and I also feel like blue lock is generally a better fit for that spot even though I prefer AoAshi out of the two. And this isn't an anime, but perhaps Kaiju could make it there? Though honestly speaking Kaiju's explosive growth very much halted now, so I wouldn't expect it. Still, something might change next year, who knows. JJK, OP, MHA, TR are more or less top 10 locks, KnY will very likely be the only series that ended to make a return to top10 next year (though at a much lower number and position, surely). This post ended up being much longer than I intended when I started writing it, sorry about that lol

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
Oops yep, there won't be more than 2 SxF volumes for next year... with its release every 5 months ~ JjK still has its movie out early so it can gets few extra millions of sales with a 10% boost and its releases of the year... and keeps its first place after all. There's a hype for Blue Lock but will it be enought to hit 10M+ ? It would be funny to see Slam Dunk back with its movie...xD but I see it's coming at the fall of 2022 so still short for anything... About Kaiju, its last volume sold quite the same of 3rd one with the same period (less than 3k between). I'm wondering if it's 'cause the intensity slowed down for few chapters...666k during 31 days is still quite good but I imagined a volume 4 at a higher level than it actually is.

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
*It seems unlikely to me that Blue Period would be 10th with 50k units. So this is possibly one of these case where a manga outside the top 10 is wrongly put there. See what happened in the first week of the 2021 Oricon year (that's in the second post of this thread): series outside the top 10 got their data mistakenly put in it. Friday data will fix that

 Re: Weekly Manga Sales 2021
It looks like the race for number 1 in 2021 is over for KNY. Congratulations to JJK.
MHA seems to be unable to reach Top 5.
