DVD Sales May 12-18

Not much interesting, outside of the slightly amazing jump to #1 for the Indiana Jones trilogy. :whaa:

DVD Rentals May 19-25

Hm, kinda mediocre start for NT2, considering films like that usually do well in rentals. And Strange Wilderness appears to be heading for a Grandma Boys-style following. Hm.

Top Rentals for May 26–June 1

Good for Rambo. Very nice for Grace is Gone to beat The Cleaner considering it's a Weinstein title and thus not widely available.

Very good for National Treasure: Book of Secrets. The first one was HUGE on DVD and the sequel looks to follow suit. Seems like it will end up above Alvin and I Am Legend in sales. I think around 8-9 million sold DVDs is looking like a possibility.

Decent for Rambo. Not as good as Rocky Balboa's DVD start, but still alright.

Great for 27 Dresses. I think it can sell over 3 million units eventually.

Bee Movie's DVD performance surprises me as well...already past 4 million sold copies.

There Will Be Blood sold over 1 million units!

It sucks that BOM doesn't post rentals anymore apparently.

Great for The Bucket List. The movie's been an all-around hit for the studio and is now looking at 2+ million sales.

Okay for Jumper, though I doubt this number guarantees a sequel.

Still excellent for National Treasure: Book of Secrets. I think it will eventually hit 7.5-8 milion sold units,

The Adventures of Indiana Jones has performed quite well on DVD with over 1.3 million DVDs sold by now and that not counting the sales for individual films. The franchise is still strong.

Thank God, Meet the Spartans bombed on DVD!

I'm still amazed at Shooter's life on DVD, as it has already sold 3.5 million units and just re-appeared in the Top 30! It has already by far outdone its box-office take on DVD.

27 Dresses is doing very well too, probably passing 3 million in sales eventually.

It sucks that nobody does anymore. Not IMDB and Home Media Retailing doesn't post how much they made, just positions. Will they ever start having them again?

Terrible start for Vantage Point. It'll crawl to 1 million sold copies and considering a $70+ million box-office that's pretty poor. Hell, 3:10 to Yuma and Shooter were much smaller at the box-office, yet sold between 2.5-3 times as many DVDs as this one will. Looks like WoM really was not that good.

Okay for 10,000 B.C.. A typical, mid-level hit performance. Will hit around 2 million copies eventually.

GREAT for The Bucket List which will hit 2.5+ million sales.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets
is holding well and will eventually move ahead of I Am Legend in sales. I see this being a long-burner, like the first film, eventually passig 7-8 million units.

The Adventures of Indiana Jones did very very well too, selling over 1.5 million copies. If you think about it money-wise, then it's the 7th biggest DVD release of the year so far. That's very impressive if you consider that it has been on DVD before. I wonder how it did back then...I bet it sold 2+ million copies then too.

Jumper is doing fairly well too, looking to get to 2 million sales.

Cleaner's kinda big in rentals. I'm still surprised it didn't go to theatres.

Yes. I know what they are supposed to tell us, but they are of no real value actually.

2008 sales so far:

http://www.the-numbers.com/dvd/charts/annual/2008.php

_______________________________________________________________________________

Step Up 2 the Streets didn't even sell half as many DVDs in its first week as Step Up did (1.4 million). I see it barely making it to 1.5 million sold units, whereas the first film sold over 2.2 million (it had a huge drop after Christmas).

I expected The Bank Job to do better, especially since WoM seemed to be excellent. Should still sell over 1 million units.

I wonder what Batman Begins' lifetime sales stand at, I'm guessing at well over 12 million by now, since 300 and Transformers, both similarly huge WoM hits sold over 12 million as well.

Pretty TERRIBLE for Vantage Point so far.

The Bucket List which also did pretty well at the box-office is performing tremendously on DVD and should sell well over 2.5 million DVDs overall.

Pathetic fort Meet the Spartans. However, those 538,000 people who bought it should be banned from movies forever anyway.

Good for Rambo, should flirt with 2 million copies eventually.

National treasure: Book of Secrets
is on track to eventually become the biggest of last December's DVD releases as I see it having a long DVD life. It's still not doing nearly as well as the first National Treasure film on DVD, but I expect its lifetime sales total to pass 7 million.

Enchanted
did very well too and will soon pass 5 million. With a holidays push, it will eventually surpass 7 million as well.

Can't believe that 3:10 to Yuma is still ahead of No Country for Old Men. While the former's performance on DVD was tremendous, the latter disappointed considering its BP win.

Because it's a wonderful movie? :D That, and it was newly released on DVD this year.

It said 1999 on the website that's why I thought it was a little peculiar.

Top 50 2008 sales so far:

http://www.the-numbers.com/dvd/charts/annual/2008.php

Very underwhelming start for Nim's Island considering it's a kids flick and all. Those usually do well on DVD.

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is doing well on DVD and should have a ong run. I see it eventually selling 1.5+ million copies.

Good for 21. One of the surprise hits of the year in theatres and now it is on its way to become a hit on DVD as well. Disturbia sold 1.9 million copies on DVD so far and 21 should approach that.

The Bank Job became a sleeper hit in theatres and looks to repeat the same on DVD on its way to 1+ million sold units.

Step Up 2 the Streets is doing well on its own, but not nearly as well as the first Step Up which ended up selling close to overall 3 million copies.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets will soon eclipse I Am Legend and become the biggest-selling DVD of the year so far. Well, until Iron Man is released anyway. Eventually, NT2 will wind up with over 7 million sales, a holidays boost considered.

Disappointing for Vantage Point, I must say...

Casino Royale's initially disappointing DVD sales total seems to be picking up as it finally crossed 5 million copies in sales.

In other news: Rambo actually did pretty well on DVD. Rocky Balboa was quite more successful in theatres, yet sold only around 0.2 millionm copies more than Rambo by now and Rambo could actually catch up to it.
