Wow...Hostage seems to be doing really really well. Should pass $60 million, I think. With that and $74 million worldwide so far, it might actually turn into profit. Every single penny is well-deserved.

Also, Man of the House is making surprisngly a lot considering its box-office take.

The Upside of Anger will make over $50 million as well...

Looks like Alexander will eventually break even.

Hostage is still huge on DVD and deservingly so. It will make over $70 million in rentals.

The Upside of Anger loks like it'll be around for a while. Looking at around $55-60 million here, I think.

A little dissapointing for Sin City. I thought it could do $12+ million in rentals for the week.

Some observations:

I expected Sin City to make a little more but I guess most people probably just went ahead and bought it.

The Wedding Date did quite well considering how terrible it is.

Guess Who and Alexander are doing decently, as is Kung Fu Hustle.

XXX: State of the Union has eclipsed its theatrical intake.

The Upside of Anger has a chance to make 60 million plus.

Hostage is a monster hit and Man of the House isn't doing bad either. The same could be said for Constantine.

Because of Winn-Dixie is doing fine, especially for a family film, which generally don't rent as well as other genres.

Both Miss Congeniality 2 and Coach Carter have been big on DVD/video.

Hostage and Hitch were just huge on DVD. I'm more surprised by the former, though.

Why? It's a Bruce Willis movie and it made under $40M at the box office, so not that many people saw it.

Supposedly really well. 4 to 1 what Wedding Date sold. I dont know why they do all this 4 to 1 crap now, its stupid. Also they do %, they said Simpsons set sold 70% of what wedding date sold.

Great. So The Wedding Date sold 200 DVD's, Sin City 800 and The Simpsons 140, heh.

When the heck is the industry going to make sales info available on a weekly basis, it really pisses me off that it's so shrouded in secrecy, bah.

I don't know about international DVD sales numbers, so it might break even. However, those DVD rental numbers don't really mean anything. The studios hardly get any money from rentals; most of the money comes from sales (where they get 70% or more of the gross). In sales Guess Who easily beat Alexander.

A little surprised that Beauty Shop did better than The Ring Two, but then again, it made about half of what The Ring Two did in theaters.

Monster in Law is doing well...ugh ugh...!!!

Does anyone think that Hostage's performance here is the most impressive in a long time? I certainly think so. It'll end close to $80 million. Well deserved.

Man of the House did really well as well.

Not really in the mood to make the table and my computer is terribly slow today. Maybe Zing can take over that duty.

In any case, here are prime examples how DVD saves box-office disappointments and flops. Hostage for instance cost around $52 million and made $35 million in the USA and around $70-75 million worldwide. However, it already banked in $67 million in rentals and will end up close to $75 million with sales not included. When all is said and done the movie will give the studio a nice profit. Sahara might even end up with a sequel. The budget was around $130 million, but it made $120 million worldwide and is on course to make $55+ million in rentals and therefore assure some profit for the studio when combined with the sales.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is not doing well, though. Not a good start. But it already made its money back in theatres, I think.

Man of the House already made almost twice as much as it did in theatres.

Moreover, we might see another Urban Legend movie. The third one is on course to a total of over $15 million in rentals and that with a budget of $0.8 million.

Don't have a chart right now because I'm not on a computer with excel at the moment...

Meh, bad start for Midnhunters. : (

Anyone else surprised that The Ring Two is doing so badly in rentals, hm?

Hitch is simply HUGE. I can't remember a single movie in 2004/2005 that did as well in rentals as this one. By this rate it'll finish with over $85 million when all is said and done.
