Wow for Gran Torino! This will have a looong life on DVD. I see over 7 million sold units.

And True Blood is still doing amazing business!

This week's sales:

Gran Torino fell hard this week after an amazing drop last week - but the total is already amazing and the third-best of the year so far.

Taken is doing pretty well too and will certainly crack 5 million sales soon.

True Blood is still having amazing holds! I see it eventually reaching 2 million in sales which is terrific for a TV series.

Very good for Bride Wars actually. Didn't think it'd pass 2 million in sales, but it will.

By the time of New Moon's release, Twilight will pass 10 million sold units.

Awesome for DEXTER! The second season debuted with $3,462,365 and the third $6,076,584. Could Season 4 see 9 Million or better next year?

Here's the chart for last year, which also shows how much Gossip Girl: Season 1 debuted with. Season 2 did increase a bit, but not much.

I stopped trusting the-numbers a while ago. They keep adjusting their numbers the whole time.

Yeah, not sure if that guy who posted the Top 100 sellers is keeping up to date, but he was posting the actual weekly numbers for awhile.

THE UNBORN made more theatrically but THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT debuted with more in sales. Nice! A lot of people didn't care for THE UNBORN though.

I don't really trust them either but I guess reality's not that far off.

Solid for SUNSHINE CLEANING.

A somewhat decent debut for THE INFORMERS. Nobody is renting it at my store.

As usual, take these with a grain of salt:

http://www.the-numbers.com/dvd/charts/w ... isweek.php

Heroes: Season 3 has done surprisingly well, considering how much disliked the last two seasons were and the drop-off's in ratings. The first season sold nearly 2 million copies, while the second got close to 1 million. This did worse than the second in its opening, but still pretty well for a TV show.

Those Bring It On DTV sequels also keep doing well, even in their third outing...

Hannah Montana: The Movie is also doing pretty surprisingly well. Should sell over 3 million copies.

Bad for State of Play and Duplicity.

In oure sales revenue True Blood: Season 1 is actually among the ten best sellers this year so far and even with the number of DVD units sold it is going to be one of the biggest TV shows on DVD in a long time (not counting Planet Earth)...maybe the biggest since Lost Season 1 or 2.

Supernatural had a great outing for a CW show.

Terrific number for The Office. One of the best-selling series on DVD and that still in its fifth season!

Iron Man re-entered the charts, now at over 9 million sold units. Still seems a bit too low for me.

Fast & Furious' number seems also pretty low considering its box-office performance.

Watchmen, on the other hand, seems to be doing just fine and with the release of the Ultimate Cut will eventually pass 3 million in sales.

Here's the yearly chart so far:

http://www.the-numbers.com/dvd/charts/annual/2009.php

Twilight's incredibly huge and once New Moon is out in theatres it'll pass 10 million in sales. Considering it hasn't even made $200 million in theatres, that's amazing!

Mamma Mia! is a monster on DVD, having sold over 6.3 million copies already.

I'm also stunned at how well Fireproof has done. Almost 2 million?! Wha?!

That's actually a very good number for Wolverine! The DVD sales have gone down this year and X-Men: The Last Stand opened with a bit over 3.1 million sold copies in its first week. Considering the reception of Wolverine and the fact that it made about $50 million less than X3, 2.4 million sold units is a very solid number. Should sell over 5 million in total.

Terrific sales for The Office!

State of Play is sadly not performing well...

I find it weird that I Love You, Man, despite bigger box-office, is being far outperformed by Role Models. The former looks like it won't get much more than 1.4-1.5 million copies sold, whereas Role Models has already sold almost 2.2 million units...

Really great for IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA.

Also surprising for WOLVERINE.

Wolverine scored about 80% of X3's opening weekend / total, so pretty consistent.

Dang on State of Play. Nobody cares about it apparently.

I'd say the reason Role Models is doing better than I Love You, Man probably because of rewatchability. Role Models has a lot more memorable scenes and is a bit more "fun" with the whole knight fighting ending. Not to say it's necessarily better than I Love You, Man.

Well, ILYM had better legs at the box-office...

ILYM is probably too gay for fans of this sort of comedy ;). That being said, I liked ILYM better :P.

I liked Role Models better, but not by much. I agree that it is probably more rewatchable, but the gap is really big...

Very disappointing start for Monsters vs. Aliens. I mean it made more than Wolverine at the box-office and kid flicks usually sell well anyway, so that number really isn't that good. With Christmas ahead it'll pick up, but I don't see more than 5-6 million in sales anyway.

Expected drop for Wolverine, but its total number is very good. X-Men: The Last Stand was at 4,266,252 after the same amount of time, but it obviously had much more going for it. Wolverine will eventually eclipse 5 million sold units.

I'm surprised at that big number for Hannah Montana: The Movie...looks like it still has lots of avid fans. Should cross 3 million as well. High School Musical 3 was at around 2.7 million after the same number of weeks so that's a good number.

Madagascar 2 still seems to me as somewhat of a disappointing seller, but looks like it is somewhat consistent. With the holiday season ahead and all it will eventually pass 8 million, maybe even 9 million by the time Madagascar 3 is out.

Looking at the Top sellers of the year http://www.the-numbers.com/dvd/charts/annual/2009.php ...

I find it shocking that The Day the Earth Stood Still sold more units so far than Slumdog Millionaire, despite having bad WoM and grossing much less at the box-office. How come?!

Still quite disappointing for Monsters Vs. Aliens, but at least with Christmas it'll make it past 5 million sold units, I think.

Surprisingly good for Bones. Didn't know it was doing so well on DVD. I mean that's almost as good of a start as Grey's Anatomy's.

Twilight is at almost 9.2 million sold copies already. With the release of New Moon it'll definitely break 10 million in total soon.

Can't believe Bring It On: Fight to the Finish is doing so well. over 500,000 sold copies for a DTV flick is terrific. Then again, the past two Bring It On DTV movies sold over 1.2 million copies each. Gotta be the most succesful DTV franchise out there.

Surprisingly enough, Wolverine is actually leggier on DVD than X-Men: The Last Stand was and probably won't finish too far off X3's total number of sold units. I think with Christmas coming up 5 million is possible.

Trick r Treat did a little better than I was expecting. I thought it'd end up around 70,000 units sold.

The numbers are pathetic.
I know it's the only source we have but when they downgraded everything in 2008 by like 1m each that was just lame.
Not to mention their idiotic 'ticket sales' is just dividing the gross by average ticket cost.
It is after all impossible to count the number of tickets for any movie not rated R. Kid's tickets, discounts, 3D, IMAX etc etc
I bet MVA sold more than that. after all TN can just fudge the counts up and down without consequence.
