i have the Pierrot one, too, but didn't have any room for it so it's still in the box.

Ooooooh, Repulsion. I can't quite share the enthusiasm for the Godards- Made in USA sounds a bit dodgy on my end.

Every month, I eagerly await the announcement of some of those Von Sternbergs...and they never come...sigh.

Post subject:  Re: The Criterion thread

well, I'm gonna try to buy one criterion a month, and hopefully can go the rest of year purchasing things from these "other" directors. (well, I'm also gonna pick up Made in U.S.A. in June), but my non-Godard Criterion for the month of June will probably be Earrings. Then I'm gonna go for something I haven't seen....Repulsion and Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles seem right up my alley. I would totally by Marienbad...but that art....urgh.

When's Deep Discount?

How could Jeanne Dielman seem right up anyone's alley?

Does anyone here own Chungking Express or Naked Lunch on Criterion? How are the DVDs? (I have seen the films already).

The Chungking Express DVD looks great. The features aren't so hot, but it's a gorgeous transfer.

Is it worth getting the B&N membership?

Post subject:  Re: The Criterion thread

Actually, yes. As long as you make sure you're buying stuff during the key yearly sales, you'll get great value for your money.

This current Criterion sale is a very good one.

yoshue, Can you tell me what deals can be applied to purchasing criterion dvds, in addition to the 50% off and additional 10% off? Is there, for example, a Buy 2 Get 1? :D

I am a mega Jew.

for $74. you can't beat that.

snack, if that's the single-disc, non-TV version of Fanny& Alexander it's not even worth the 13.49.

Torrino, the only thing you can really add onto that would be an additional 15% off one item coupon (find code online). That's what I'm gonna do!

Are the two films really different? I saw the theatrical version.

Post subject:  Re: The Criterion thread

yes. the TV version is 5 hrs long, and much, much better.

well, i assume its better. i can't imagine a shortened version being worth watching.

also, i want nothing more than to take advantage of this deal. but i probably cannot buy anything : (
