"Dark Passion Play" is different for sure.
After losing Tarja, I feel they have lost that special sound that put them far above other Symphonic Metal bands. Anette Olzon isn't bad, but there really isn't anything special about her. At least the music is just as great as ever.
What "Dark Passion Play" does have going for it is "The Poet and the Pendulum". I compare it to "Ghost Love Score" and "Beauty of the Beast". And I'd rank it right between the two. "Amaranth" is also very strong. All the other tracks are solid, with several "Sahara", "The Islander", and "7 Days To The Wolves" having parts in them that keep them above average.
8.5/10
I still miss Tarja though.
