The weekned, post Maole, Usher are nowhere near pop as their core format shouldnt even be brought into consideration.

Jsutin Timberlake shouldn't even be considered too. HE did pop with NSync then compltely went th R&B route, just cuz he's white doesn't mean he's pop

But here’s the thing, during the 90s and early 00s, pop was pretty much the same as R&B. Listen to some New Kids if you don’t believe. It wasn’t until late 00s that the 80s nostalgia wave hit and became the new standard for pop.

I think it’s hard to say The Weeknd is pop but Prince isn’t.

Likewise with Usher I can understand calling him pop, but the #1 genre when I think Usher is RnB. In fact he is one of the guys I associate most with RnB period. Should there be people on the list where their most associated genre isn’t pop?

And if you’re worried about people losing every matchup, Enrique and Chris Brown are there despite likelihood they get trounced. Chris Brown in particular nobody wants to vote for that douche. I think J Lo or George Michael would do better.

In Hot 100, Usher had 9 #1, 18 top tens, and 51 charting songs.

In Mainstream Top 40, he has 2 #1's, 16 top tens, and 28 top 40's.

Half the other names on the list don't have as many pop hits as him. To remove him would be like removing Adele and Pink for dominating Adult Contemporary

I like the stats!

The edits have been logged and I like the brackets better already. Every change has made their group more competitive. Brainstorming is working.

I also think I found a good way to give the voting time to breathe while also keeping the pacing fast.

Day 1: Groups A and B have their first matches
Day 2: Groups C and D have their first matches
Day 3: Groups E and F have their first matches
Day 4: Groups G and H have their first matches
Day 5: Voting for Day 1 ends. Groups A and B have their second matches
Day 6: Voting for Day 2 ends. Groups C and D have their second matches.

And so on. That way it will take twelve days to get through round one (right?). Round two, the Championship round, will continue at four a day until a winner is crowned, with similar breathing time based on math I have not done yet.

The Weeknd makes more sense to me than Prince, even if just for recency bias...and and even though Price had a bit of rivalry with #1 seed MJ, I just feel that's not enough reason to include him.

What to do, what to do? Strong arguments against The Weeknd, but it still doesn't feel right to take him out. I guess it still just comes down to my belief that R&B and pop just aren't different enough to fuss over. Prince I was cool with leaving out to begin with, but crossing him out will probably leave my soul forever cursed. I dunno, I now also agree with Shack that it'd be silly to have only one in, but removing both of them would be a double curse!

Enrique will be back in though. Promise.

What about Furtado or Avril? I figured they'd get stronger push back as they are there mostly because I like them more than the other alternatives. Yet everyone else also seems cool with em, which is absolutely fine by me.

April and Furtado were both really big for a while, I think they could both be deserving to be in. However I personally would not like to lose Furtado and am cool with Avril being left off.

If you include the weeknd you would have to include Post Malone.
