I also think that like Lost, Heroes is one of those shows that is so serialized and connected episode to episode that over time it's bound to lose some audience. Not everyone can keep up on every episode for 3 years straight... we're tv geeks but a lot of casual viewers just don't do it.

As some of you have probably noticed, there are some days where I have been late with posting the ratings, due to my new class schedule. On those days (like today), I'll post the overnight results that are available earlier in the morning. When I next get the chance, I'll update the thread with viewer numbers unless they have already been posted.

I feel bad that you are the only one responsible for posting the numbers. I'm sure you don't mind, but would it be easier to make up a schedule of two or three people who can post them?

I agree! Some days, other people have posted the numbers so it should be like a revolving door.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days when I usually am unable to post the viewer numbers on time. If someone else wants to post the numbers on those days, that would be very helpful. I don't mind doing it myself later in the evening, but after two years, people have probably come to expect the ratings threads at around 12:00-1:00. It would certainly be nice if someone could help to maintain that punctuality. Thanks alot.

With that in mind, viewer numbers will be posted in a minute...

Post Re: Monday 9/24 Ratings
That number for The Big Bang Theory is obscene. However, if it's anything like I've heard (The lead characters aren't likeable at all), I expect that number to drop fast. And great hold for Two and a Half Men. I like that show and I want to see it continue.

As for Chuck, that number is decent. I don't think it was quite what NBC was expecting with the amount of advertising put into it, but if it mantains that kind of number (Despite having the episodes available online, DVR, etc.) it should stay on for awhile.

Heroes on the other hand has to be a disappointment. I absolutely agree with Kill that they dropped the ball with the marketing. I think NBC tried too hard to play up the "hype" of Heroes (How many clips did we have to see of them going over to Japan?) instead of marketing the upcoming season. They just kept showing that lame ass preview over and over again. I had no clue up until last night that the show was starting this week. My DirecTV guide the night before didn't even have it up in the 9pm spot. I think this mixed in with what Shack said, is why Heroes is down. You have to see every episode in order to really keep up with what's going on. I think some viewers started to lose interest towards the second half of the year, and are either trying to catch up on what happened through the DVD's, or they just gave up.

While we are on the topic of changing some things up regards the posting of ratings, everyone should go put their two cents in about making a ratings sub forum. I think it's a good idea, since the ratings discussions do take up quite a bit of space.

Post Re: Monday 9/24 Ratings
I, for one, thought the Heroes number was decent!!

**Looking back at my recorded ratings, except for the finale not ONE episode Heroes during it's spring return earned more than 12 million. The last episode averaged just around 12 million.

**Fans and critics alike thought the finale was way underwhelming.

**I saw virtually no advertisement for the new season (given I don't watch NBC)

Considering all those points, I was expecting Heroes to premier around 12-13 million, so I'm actually IMPRESSED with the number. It's higher than the series premier!

Solid for Dancing with the Stars as well. I actually thought it might dip a bit this fall but it's just as big as it ever was. Hopefully they keep it up. Bachelor could have been better but it's alright. Actually it's annoying because it's not high enough to help ABC and it's not low enough to give reason for cancellation. Can't believe it' been running for like 6 years now!!!

I can't believe Journeyman scored higher than Chuck. Then again Chuck had no lead in. They both seem like goners at this point.

Chuck increased at the half hour, very nicely in the demo. If it holds where it is, it's definitely getting a full season. But it all depends on what it does the next few weeks.

Chuck has potential because I hear alot of people like it. And I forgot we're talking about NBC so I'm pretty sure they'll settle for 8 million average if it gets that... well depending on how well their other new series do.

But Journeyman... from the very few advertisements I saw, it was so unappealing. Did anybody actually watch and like it?

Jedi Master Carr did. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=34847

But from the big drops it got at the half hour, most people didn't. And the reviews have not been raves, more so-so, so that won't save it.

I liked it, but I am really into time travel type stuff. The Time Travel aspect could hurt it because it could be confusing for people. Time Travel is so hard to do in any format.

The weak season finale hurt Heroes I feel a lot. Lot of people(including myself) lost a lot of faith in the series with that finale. And the preimere honestly did not make things better. The show honestly could start dying out already.

Didn't the premiere get...14 million viewers and extremely high A18-49 numbers? As in, as well as it was doing in the middle of last season?

Did I miss something? Why is everyone acting like the show dropped to 4 million viewers?

I just read something very interesting:

Quote:
Nielsen Media Research has a new rule -- if a network airs a show more than once (be it on broadcast or cable or a combination of both), and all of the commercials in both broadcasts are identical, then the network can combine the rating of both airings into one single rating attributed to the first broadcast. Furthermore, the second airing will not show up as a stand alone broadcast in the weekly ratings report. Consider that - and how NBC has chosen to capitalize on the new rule which was announced earlier this year, but just went into effect last Monday. Heroes debuted on Monday night with a single sponsor, Nissan. The show will air again on Saturday night on NBC, again with the single sponsor. That means in the weekly ratings, Heroes will show up only once, and will be reported with the combined Monday / Saturday rating. The second airing stand-alone ratings will never be reported. Now, sit back and watch the fireworks.

So, if Heroes gets 14 mill for Monday and say 5 million for a Saturday repeat, it'll be reported as 19 million overall, just as long as the commercials are the same?

Considring how big the "hype" was, I thought 15M was almost a gurantee for Heroes.

And my fear is that I always thought 2nd season of Heroes would not be that good, mainly because shows with amazing 1st seaons almost always seem to have a dissapointing 2nd (24 being an exception that I can think of). And last night's episode just made me even more scared.

I could honestly see Heroes decreasing more and more after this unless the episodes start getting better.

WTF?

Well for sure the Nissan commercials stay the same. But it's not like they'll air all Nissan commercials, right? I ddin't see Heroes live so what were the commercials (for those who remember)? Nissan and NBC promos?

I think the show will be fine. Lost even went down in Season 2 some what so I don't see the problem. The show will still be #1 on Monday night till at least 24 comes back.

I think this is the stupidest thing in the world! I mean COME ON!!!!! How unfair is that?? And it completely throws off the ratings tracking for each show. There is no way to account for original viewers in the second viewing so this makes no sense at all!
