WoKJ's Box Office Derby Launched!
It's been a long month or so of development, but I'm thrilled to report that WoKJ's Box Office Derby has been launched and you can find it on the main site. We recreated the Derby because we strongly believe we are best suited to support, continuously improve, and ensure the longevity of a new derby game. We really need your help promoting it, which you can read more about over here. I hope you'll consider lending your voice.


What's New
We tried to keep the base concepts of the game unchanged, while improving the tools and analytics players were given around the results. Here are some of the things we added:

• Scores for Holdovers and Openers
• Relative Scores
• Powerful Results Grids
• Searchable Results
• Ability to Graph Results (won't launch till there is adequate player data)
• An easy way to track the whole derby's performance (candle chart)

Not only that, there is a lot of additional stuff we're going to bring you. To that end, we're going to be listening to feedback over the coming weeks to determine what to focus on. You can offer feedback in this thread, or create a new topic-specific thread in The Site.


When does it start?
You can predict now! The opening game will be the first weekend of January (Jan 6-8). You can edit your prediction all the way up to the deadline.


Are there prizes?
Yep! The new derby will feature prizes for the quarterly and yearly winners. We haven't solidified what those prizes will be, but our intention is to make them available to anyone. If I had to guess right now, I would expect each quarterly winner to get an gift certificate to something like Amazon / Fandango / etc in the range of $15-20 for quarterly winners and $40-50 for the yearly winner.


In Closing:
We have throughly enjoyed the oppurtunity to build this game. I ask only that the Derby community give us a chance: let us show you that we deserve to be the home of this game. What happened at BOM was a tragedy, you deserved better. We're committed to providing that better, we have the manpower and resources to put behind it, and we hope you'll enjoy playing.

I just entered. I'm not a good box office predictor, but should be fun.

Ill play for sure. I should of practice my predicting skills weeks ago but i didnt have the time. Hope i have the time to play this time and do at least acceptable or average, i haven't done this in a long long time.

Quick question though. I've used the fill in table tool that was originally there to calcuate averages for a box office game and I wanted to know if that tool would still be around?

If you look in the footer of any page of the main site / forum, you'll find a link that says "Tools." Clicking it will take you to the calculator.

We won't remove that unless we mimic it's functionality elsewhere (for example, as a calculator section of the Derby), it will just no-longer be prominently linked.

The game is looking fantastic. Excellent work, guys. Working on my predictions for week 1 right now.

This is sort of tangential, but the search function for the main page doesn't appear to be working.

The search link is somewhat of a placeholder as of now. Now that the derby is operational I'm sure the search will be higher on our radar of things to finish.

Yes, you can edit your prediction all the way until the deadline.

How many entrants so far?

We haven't hit the threshold I'm hoping for, but it's only Monday. I'm sure most people will predict later in the week, back loading the entrants. Fingers crossed.

Maybe it is possible to set a countdown till a deadline? There is obviously some players from Europe with different time zones.

Thanks for the suggestion. I updated the message on the derby home page and the page you enter predictions. In both cases it will now show how much time remains until the deadline.

That deadline countdown looks great. I sometimes miss these deadlines because of the timezone difference. That was a great suggestion "almost famous"
