Post subject:  WoKJ Admin Election - Help Create the Process

Welcome to a bit of a social experiment. First things first, I come to you seeking help. We are undertaking a major revision to the way the WoKJ forum is run, and I would like your help crafting rules for the new process. Everything below is up for discussion, I will listen to all feedback and advice, but I have final say so on what changes are made below. Lets get started!

WoKJ Commandments

1) You shall not view the world through binary!
---------- Spam bots and spam in general are not allowed on the forum.

2) Thou shalt not bear witness to porn!
---------- Explicit nudity is not allowed in posts on the forum.

3) Thou shalt not bear witness to violence!
---------- Explicit violence is not allowed in posts on the forum.

4) You hath been granted the freedom of speech!
---------- Users of this forum are allowed to express themselves and their beliefs, regardless what those beliefs are, so long as they do so in a manner that isn't hostile to other members and respects others rights to their own beliefs. Similarly, profanity is an expression of oneself, and so long as that expression is not hostile to another, it is acceptable on this forum.

5) Treat thy fellow poster as you would have oneself be treated!
---------- Attacks directed at someone in a personal manner are not allowed. Do not attack a person's character, looks, social life, etc.

These commandments are the foundation of the forums rules, an administration may expand and/or add to them, but they must form the basis for the communities rules.

Election of WoKJ's President

1) Each year on the 1st of June a thread will be created where a user can formally give notice of their intention to run for the office of President.
2) Each year on the 7th of June, the intention to run thread will be closed and a new nomination thread created. This nomination thread will allow users to publicly vote for one and only one of the users who intends to run for office.
3) The three users with the most votes from the nomination thread on the 14th of June at 12:01am will be eligable to run for office. The owners of the site reserve the right to remove any nominated user they feel is not serious about the job and replace them with any other user from the nomination thread or noone at all. Any replacement must be done by the 15th of June at 12:01am.
4) On the 20th of June each nominee will be required to submit a list of rules they would apply to the forum, including the Commandments above.
5) On the 21st of June there will be one townhall meeting during which ten selected user questions will be presented to each nominee to answer. They will be given the questions ahead of time, and present their answers during the meeting.
6) The owners of the site reserve the right to remove any nominated user they feel is not serious about the job, but any removal past the 20th of June can not be replaced with someone else.
7) On the 25th of June voting will begin. Users will submit their votes privately to the current President, who will tally them. Voting ends on the 1st of July at 12:01am. The winner will be announced sometime on the 1st.

The President will create and enforce the rules of the forum. They will be responsible for picking their own cabinet (moderating team) and will handle the day to day moderation of the forum. They have full reign to create their own moderation guidelines (what it takes to get banned, etc) and will be in full control of the forum on a daily basis.

Election Rules

1) Owners can remove the President at any time and assume control, should the need arise.
2) The process begins on June 1st and ends on July 1st.
3) The new President takes office on August 1st.
4) There is no term limit for presidents, and should they choose to run for re-election, they automatically are granted one of the 5 nominee spots meaning only 4 additional users will be nominated.
5) All registered, active and unbanned members are eligable to run and vote.
6) There is no limit to how many times you can run.
7) Current Cabinet members are eligable to leave and run for office, should they want to.
8) Nebs will remain an admin, but will not take part in the moderation of the forum. He will serve as an oracle if the new team has any questions. He'll still have full administrative privladges, and will be expected to handle the more technical aspects of the job like bbcodes, permissions, etc. But aside from dealing with spam bots, he wouldn't be involved with moderating the users of the forum, as that would fall to the new Administrator and his staff and they would have full authority to that end.

Now here's where you come in. I would like help re-working the three sections above. Everything from the wording in the Commandments to the rules of the election. It's not a perfect process, and I would like you all to help me make it better. The whole thing is unique, a bit crazy and certainly untested, but for various reasons we're going to give it a try and I'd really like you're help in the process.

Thanks in advance for the help.

After a quick read on my BB. 1 point on 1 or between 1/2.

When someone annouces, they should make 1 statement on their views. So that the people know what the stance is of who they r nominating.

Also can people rerun

They certainly can. We can probably create a seperate 'Stump' thread where canidates and users can voice opinions, ask questions, etc.

What are the powers of the president?

The President will create and enforce the rules of the forum. They will be responsible for picking their own cabinet (moderating team) and will handle the day to day moderation of the forum. They have full reign to create their own moderation guidelines (what it takes to get banned, etc) and will be in full control of the forum on a daily basis.

I'll add this above as well.

Create? Think there should be existing rules and then they can suggest others which has to be approved by owners. But the president should be the final authority of the rules and operations.

Unless there is an appeals process if they run amok or are grossly unfair.

IMO.

These commandments are slightly contradicting.

Seems a bit grander than what was originally discussed.

I'm not sure there are any users, past or present, I would be willing to give full control of the forum to. Not sure who would even qualify (long-time, frequent member, trustworthy).

I believe I am most trustworthy, those few days in '04 notwithstanding.

My vote goes to Argos, ...this radical bastard with his Far Out ideas can cause the sprouting of wild roses of magnificence from the darkest dung, that KJ is.

It is grand, and it is different. I have confidence in our users.

To answer Grill's question, the nominee's will make up a set of rules, these rules must follow the commandments of the forum and can't contradict them. Thus if there is anything rule wise that you feel should be mandatory, let it be known you think something should be added to those commandments.

I already did this. Even had debates between the two presidential nominees and even the vice presidential nominees. dolcevita won the election.

That makes one owner. Voting here is about as bad as Broward county.

What you did was giving a blowjob to a dildo: a dry run.

Christ, this is a bad idea. And yet I'm morbidly fascinated to see how it turns out.

Argos makes a good point, but would you have a GERMAN as your president? I certainly would not. He comes from the same country as Adolf Hitler and Dr. Lecter.

It'll only be fun and entertaining if someone horribly unqualified wins, like Dino and he makes harry713 and half of The Pube his cabinet. If someone like Libs or Groucho wins, how mundane.

If Dino is elected President, I will lead the exodus back to BOM.
