Hey guys, Thanks first off for your patience, it's been a rough two days. On April 8th, my birthday of all days, our web hosting provider ceased to exist. We had been using a company called Dedicated Place, a reseller who purchased unmanaged servers at bulk prices from a web host called Layered Technology who hosted them. Dedicated Place then managed them for various people, us included. Apparently, Dedicated Place hasn't been paying their bills, so Layered Technology unplugged all the servers they had, which included ours. Now initially, I was told by Dedicated Place that the outage was due to a network issue, and that everything was being worked on. 12 hours later, Dedicated Place was no longer in existence, and I was involved in a complete mess of a situation! Since then I have been working with Layered Technology to pay to get our server plugged back in, transfer ownership of the server to me (from Dedicated Place), and a variety of other things. We payed Dedicated Place monthly for our servers, and of course, they took our money and ran. To get our servers turned back on, we had to fork out a hefty transfer/setup fee and pay Layered Technology for hosting, at a rate that is an increase of 20% from what we had been paying. As you can imagine, it's been a mess. That said, the bills are all paid, we're back up and running, and we will likely be either looking for a new web host or moving to a new server with Layered Technology to lower costs. Deep breath. I think the worst is over, everything is in tact, sorry again for the downtime. KJ A few people have PM'ed me asking how much this cost us, and if donations are needed. For those interested: We lost $120 which Dedicated Place took an ran with, then had to pay $50 for transfer/setup fees to get the server plugged back in, and had to pay our new monthly rate of $142 a month. As for donating, things remain just as they were before. Everything is paid for. Arsi, Loyal and I are happy to foot the bill, and will continue to do so. Anyone who wants to help is, as always, welcome to donate. |

My semester ends in about two weeks, then I'll start looking around. Hopefully I can find a new provider offering a better server at a lower price to get it back down to where we were before. |

Thanks for getting your site back up Eagle! I was in KJ withdrawal the last two days and was just DYING to post in the tv forum in the AI thread but couldn't. I was wishing to view the political forum and watercooler forum but couldn't. It was almost unbearable! |

I think the specs are: AMD 64 Athlon 3200/1024MB/80GB with a Centos 3.X OS, a Plesk control panel, and somewhere between 1000 and 2000GB of transfer per month. It was a managed server, though currently, it isn't since Dedicated Place used to hold that duty. The specs will be easily upgrade as we got this server like two years ago, so while they were decent then, there on the lower end now (though still get the job done). |
