Scott V needs to go. I don't understand how this site can aspire for great things, yet feature crap like this:

Tim Robbins and Derek Luke will Focus on the release of Catch a Fire, which shoots it's way into 1305 locales. Focus feature have done very well with contraversial movies like these, like the Constant Gardener. Though the subject matter is a bit dark (and I am not talking about Luke), the story looks very effective. It has something African Amercians can relate too. After all, it is a true story. Good reviews don't hurt either. Though it won't do as big as Constant Gardener, it should get a solid pta thanks the African American appeal, good story, positive reviews, and the modest release pattern. A per screen average in the mid $4000 range should result, giving the drama a $6 million opening weekend

First of all, the writing stinks. You spelled controversial wrong and what kinda sentence is "Tim Robbins and Derek Luke will Focus on the release of Catch a Fire, which shoots it's way into 1305 locales"? It's "its" in this situation, not "it's." And how the holy fuck are Tim Robbins and Derek Luke "focusing" on the release? And, finally, how is Catch a Fire "shooting" its way into 1305 LOCALES?

Second of all, you DON'T WRITE THAT KINDA BOLDED SHIT ANYWHERE. FUCK YOU.

Torri,

I edited your title because A) we are not, currently, looking for a new writer and B) while we respect your opinion and believe you have every right to voice it, you don't have the right to remove a writer or say that we have done so. That is misleading and not appreciated.

The issue will be looked at and discussed among Loyal, Arsi and myself. I thank you for bringing it to our attention, but not the method in which you did so.

KJ

If loyal and bABA care about this site, they will start accepting applications to replace Scott V ASAP.

That's quite offensive. I am shocked, Scott. How can you write this: "Evan Rachel Wood and Gweneth Paltrow will run around the movie screens with Scissors." Leave that punny business to Gene Shalit.

Well, if someone were to replace Scott, I wouldn't pick anyone other than xiayun or Lecter, the two best box-office writers (and top predictors) on the site.

I could handle the writing part, but predictions are best left to the professionals. Not that anyone would want my help, but if Lecter and xiayun can do both (write and predict), then maybe it's time for a change?

Running spell check takes only a few secs.

But more importantly, let's try to hold ourselves to a higher standard than say, AICN.

Scott come on.

I have been busy with preparing for exam and haven't been able to contribute this past month, so Scott volunteered.

Scott's effort is appreciated, especially since xiayun is the regular writer and couldn't contribute. But Scott needs to watch some of the stuff he says. It gives the site a bad image.

Quality, to me at least, is more important than consistency.

I'd really be interested to see how many people, on average, read the box office predictions. Because I wouldn't be surprised to see a HUGE drop next week in the number of people reading the article.

its upto loyal and karl what they want to do about this. i'm too tired to think straight. i do agree with the 'style' of writing but i'm not bothered about that black comment. i dont recall reading anywhere in that article that implied being black or dark is a bad thing. his statement is no different then pointing out something feminine and then naming a real woman as an example or anything. was the statement required? not really but personally, the only people i think that are offended by something like that who have gotten too overly insecure over racism. lets concentrate on the real problem where people actually descriminate and treat others badly, not at just pointing out in a tongue and cheek manner what someone really is. the same statement may have been passed for a white guy in an all black film and people would barely throw a fit.

Scott V has contributed alot to the site especially with his crowd reports. I dont know why you are berating him for his staff writing and in person hes quite a friendly guy and approachable. Torrino that you like to berate certain posters and calling them out too often which is why you lost you mod powers. Im not saying this to be all too mean since I know you meant well to be honest and straightforward to others. At least dont do it so bluntly

I'm not debating that he's a nice guy in person. But his writing is atrocious and should not be featured on the site. He said something racist. I'm not berating for the sake of berating.

I also like to believe that when I was a mod (which, for the record, ISN'T RELEVANT), I wasn't a dick. And now I am.

I stopped editing at After the weekend is over, they will have Saw III movie in this horror trilogy

Eh, it's a funny read, but yeah... too many puns. It's bad enough having Roid post them in BO Bash.

The scarefest opens in 3167 dark houses. Fans who Saw the last 2 will definetly rust out to see Saw III on opening night. After the weekend is over, they will have Saw III movie in this horror trilogy.

Recently I've been thinking whether predictions need an article whatsoever. I mean...except BOP and BOG none of the sites writes one I think (BOM, BOR...). As long as the predictions themselves are there...

dude come on. if it wasn't for all the other puns, this one really is a diamond in the rough.

they will have Saw III movie in this horror trilogy.

And thats a problem?
Gene Shalit makes his living by bashing or praising movie through puns. And Zing is just mad that he cant come up with puns like me

Comingsoon also writes article, but to some degree I agree. As long as we post the predictions that represent the site each week, we should be fine and can ask to be included in something like MCN's prediction overview each Friday.

Scott's style has always been finding the easiest pun for each movie, and not all of them are amusing.

i dont mind the puns unless they're not excessive. scott's always been punny and thats fine .. gives him his own image. he needs a consistent editor ofcourse to spruce things up but otherwise .. bleh.

sentences like this don't work

Similar movies with similar release patterns, but with better reviews, have suffered similar fates with massive opening pta's from a few theaters to flopping once going wide thanks to being too quirky (I Heart Huckabees, Punch Drunk Love, Squid and the Whale, The Science of Sleep, etc).

It's not just the puns.

I'm definitely not trying to be mean to Scott here. Like I said, it's great that he volunteers to do these articles, especially in last-minute situations. And I'm not a perfect writer either (God and Karl both know how I wrote before...). But, at the present time, it's just not... professional... to write like Scott does. There's too many grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, awkward sentences, etc. His predictions are always top-notch, and he's one of the best we've got, but writing-style wise, he's always been lacking. Not a big deal, but not too great for the main site.
