 Did I miss something?
Like, there are alot of posters who are now anonymous and removed from the list? Where did Nebs and Loyal go, and why do they appear as anonymous guests?
Also, what else did I miss?

Let me try.
-First and foremost, the forum was hacked by a group of hackers (some people call them crackers, but I don't really know the difference). Whenever anyone loaded the World of KJ page on any part of the forum, the page redirected itself to the forum of these hackers (GOOns.net, I believe). It took a while, but bABA and others fixed it.
-Because the hackers were morons, we believe they deleted the accounts of the Nebs, Krem, and Loyal, which is why a few posts and threads were created by "Anonymous".
There may be more, so I'll allow someone else to chime in (or explain it better, because I suck at explanations).
And Loyal may or may not have stopped posting here completely, because he lost all of his posts.

Oh, and it's believed that the hacking had nothing to do with anyone we know. I don't know why they did it, but I don't think it was anyone we know from the forums.

Huh, the guys could have at least deleted my account instead of Loyal's. Now its going to take me even longer to drop out of the top ten post count. I have no luck.
You're not kidding that they can't be restored right? I mean, the three of them, their posts still exist, just under "anonymous" so isn't there a way to bring it back?
Well, I was just busy having a dreadful interview, so I can't tell who had the worse day yesterday, me or the site admin?
Any other details? I've been looking through the threads in Cooler. Maybe I'm php.bb naive, but I find it hard to believe Krem, Loyal, and Nebs accounts can't be restored?

If the database was backed up i'd imagine so. I sure thou if they can be restored the collective brains of Loyal/bABA/Krem will figure it out.

Loyal has all but abandoned us completely, so I don't know if anything can be done. I'm hoping he'll be back, but I don't think he's happy about losing 14,000 posts.

Well, the database can't be restored as we don't have a proper backup (something that will never happen again as the database is now backed up each and every day).
As for the posts, they were all given the same tag, so there is no way to differentiate them. We could probably give them ALL to one of the three, but other than sifting through almost 30 thousand posts and individually assigning them to the right person, there is no real way to do it.

Ya the database backup thing is something you never remember to do until its to late. We lost a full month over on BOF because of it. I back up the database everyday now.
Eagle any way you can just artifically add the total post counts from previous to the affected members. at least there wouldn't be a sense of starting from stratch then.

Need help sifting? I'm sure if everyone chipped in and did a few it wouldn't be too tough, there are two hundred active posters on this site. And seriously, I don't want to lose three of the best posters here because of some silly hackers. I want to be showered with the enlightment of their posts in the future.
Loyal had the most posts. Send them all his way, and then we'll filter out Krems and Nebs, and convert those.

Look, given a list of "posts" you can set only those to a name right? So if everyone, say, sent you a list of ten of loyal's posts that they find, can't you put them altogether, and then do a bulk conversion to the right name? And then we could do Krem's, and then Nebs. It wouldn't even be that much work for any one person, if enough people just offered to cover one forum. And we may not be able to go all the way back, but at leastr we could go pretty far back. That's how BJ and I and Mr. price and Zennier did mailings for the international film festival. We just said, "you cover pages one through five, I'll do 6 through ten" etc. Just divy up the forums like that for everyone who is willing to help out, do one of the lost accounts at a time, and it probably ill be easy.
You can do a search with a limiter of "Anonymous too," and divy up only the results, which means people won't even have to comb entire forums, just pages of "anonymous" posts. My two cents.
I bet you'll get a good thirty people to help you out and email you the results.
Bastards should have deleted my account. Its pretty easy to just convert the foreign/indie forum into my name.

Oh I have no doubt that people would be willing to help, it's just a lot of work both for you guys and for us to actually make the change.
It's easier to fine the posts via the forum, once you start looking in the database it's not as easy to sort through 30,000 posts with the same user ID.
If there are posts that Loyal or Nebs would really like to have back on their account. By all means make a list and I'll see what I can do. Just start with a small list, we will see how it goes, and if it goes well then we can open it up to a larger scale.

On every forum software I've used (though phpBB is one that I've never used behind the scenes) it's easy to give an artificial post count to anyone.

Ok, we'll start small.
Here's the first list: http://www.worldofkj.com/forum/search.php?mode=results
edit*** oops, search resluts don't hold. What I did is put author as "anonymous," forum as "Foreign and Independant," diplay results checked "posts," and return first 1000 characters. Should get 214 results, all of them by anonymous, in the foreign/indie forum, with so much of each post showing you can just read directly. Is that what everyone else gets when they do this search?
I will take pages 1-5, who wants to do 6-9?
Keep a word document, and just copy and past each url address into a list under Loyal, Nebs, or Krem. When you've gone through your pages, send the list to Eagle (or bABA, who?) via email. All Eagle or bABA will have to do then is copy and past the list of url address under loyal (and then Nebs and then Krem) and bulk convert them to that name.
Does that work?
We'll start with ForeignINdie because there are only 214 anonymous posts, and the three of them have distinct posting styles, so it shouldn't be too hard. If it works well, we'll divy up the next forum.
What email address should I send my word document to? And do you guys think this will make it easy for you to bulk convert, or do you have a better idea in mind.
I think this'll work easily. (Unless I don't know something about bulk conversion, but jujubee seems to think it isn't that hard to assign posts to a member). It may take us a little while, but if we have enough people do it, maybe it'll even only take a week or so.
Who's in? Get your shovels out.

Do the anon posts still have IP addresses? If they do, wouldn't it be easy to assign posts according to IP address? Or at least find them that way? That won't take care of all the posts, but it would get a good bulk of them taken care of.

Heh, Dolce has spunk. I like.
Though if my experience in foruming is correct it is a bit more complicated then that...but who knows, it could work.
