Yes! Perhaps a brainstorm thread or just use this one to determine the categories?

We are well overdue one of these.

How about with people start with their top 10 box office stories of the year?

Post subject:  Re: Best of Decade: Whose Down?

this isn't for the year it's for the 2010-2019 decade.

Here's a couple categories off the top of my head. Feel free to agree/disagree and add any more. I feel the first step is to come to an agreement on categories and then have everyone submit ballots of at 6-8 nominees per category and then we can create a final ballot for us to vote on.

Best Overall Performance

Biggest Overperformance/Most Surprising (i dont know if people see these are two different categories)

Biggest Underperformance/Most Disappointing (same as above)

Most Impressive Legs

Most Important Opening Performance (i.e. which OW changed the industry the most)

Most Important Overall Performance (i.e. which overall performance changed the industry the most)

Most Impressive Non-Sequel Opening

Most Disappointing Year

Most Impressive Year

Most Impressive Male Star

Most Impressive Female Star

Most Impressive Overseas Performance by a Non-US film

Most Impressive Overseas Performance by a US film

Most Impressive Performance by a foreign-language film

Most Impressive Documentary Performance

Most Impressive Limited Release Performance

Most Impressive Award Movie Performance (basically which film had the most impressive Oscar boost)

I’m good with these categories.

I think we can split the over preforming/surprising and underperforming/disappointing categories as they do mean different things.

Not sure decades work like the millennium does.

Actually a decade is just any ten years and I specifically claimed the decade of 2010-2019 so I’m right and you can fuck off Price.

Sorry I said year, meant Decade.

How about:

Comeback of the decade
Unsung Hero (Someone like Woody Harrelson has become like the new SLJ)
Fading Star
Best Milestone (Could be like any random tidbit about anyone, make it interesting)
Biggest Blunder

Biggest Blunder to me is same as biggest disappointment. I like all the others, particularly the star ones.

Ehh... I disagree. I could see Biggest Blunder as... Cats. Like, why tf would the studio pump $100+ mil into this obvious flop?

It wasn’t an obvious flop, the original musical was more successful than Les Miserables, I’m sure they expected a similar gross no problem.

Yeah I think it doesn't have to be a film specific category as well. I mean it could be just as easily as an Oscar winner picking their next choice of film.

I for one would consider why the hell they never made a 23 Jump Street, and the leaks of how they were suppose to be merging with Men In Black or Police Academy. Either way it would have outgrossed the latest MIB.

Another one of note was how the industry handled The Interview, or All the Money in the World. Not saying they would have been big hits. I mean most people have already forgotten them. Maybe that is more for a perspective rather than box office though.

At this rate we will take this decade to brainstorm the categories.

I'm actually OK with Magnus'' original categories with perhaps a few tweaks as suggested in this thread.

Add in Biggest Blunder to Magnus' list and all done.

Post subject:  Re: Best of Box Office 2010s: Brainstorm Categories

sorry meant to update over the weekend. I'll be locking the categories tomorrow and sending DMs to everyone.

I'll be asking everyone to send EIGHT RANKED nominees for each category. But I'll be doing the point system slightly different cause I want to give more preference appearing on ballots vs. ranking.

-Appearing on ballot = +5 points
-1st place on a ballot = +4 pts, 2nd place = +3.5 pts, 3rd place = +3 pts, etc.

So if a film appears on four ballots and is third place on two of them and second place on two of them it would get 33 pts from those ballots. This way the rankings still matter but the biggest benefit will be appearing on as many ballots as possible.
