Looks good and it is supposed to be an amazing debut by Dano. But Gyllenhaal looks way too young to have a teenage son, especially when clean shaven.

Jake is 37. The kid looks about 15 max. This looks like it's set in the 1970s (?), and the character looks "working class". I can't imagine it was uncommon for a working class man to be a dad by the time he was 22 in the 1970s.

Regardless of how old he actually is, Jake should not be playing fathers so early in his career.

Yeah, 27 years as an actor, so early in his career.

Honestly I don't see any stretch that that kid could be his son. Though that kid definitely should see someone for his hairline.

Jake can still pass for a 25 year old, and he does look very young here. Ah whatever. You guys aren't seeing what I'm seeing. It just doesn't look right.

Looking forward to this one. Carey Mulligan seems amazing in it and I hope she's nominated for an Oscar.

Looks like its the 50's or early 60's.

I think it isn't far fetched. Perhaps a little jarring at first because the kid is a teenager but not shocking.

Looks good even though it was a little jarring at first seeing Jake G with a teenage son. I'm sure I will get used to it as it goes along.

I saw the film and you are on the money. The kid is 14 and though both Jake and Carey do look too young to be his parents - it is 1960 and they are indeed a working class family in Montana. The film also addresses that Carey had him when she was 20 - not unusual for the time.

That said it takes some time to get used to Jake being his father. It tends to gel far better as the film goes on.

The film is good... didn't love Carey Mulligan's performance, though.
